Some people think that now is a horrible time to sell their home but speaking from experience the holiday season is a great time for many reasons.
1. People who are looking for homes during the holidays are more serious. You will really cut down on "looky Loo" buyers.
2. Working with relocation companies, I know that most job transfers happen in January. Most job transferees want to establish residence before they start their job so their family can come out with them when employment starts.
3. Some buyer's may want to secure a property before the end of the year for tax purposes.
4. Currently in Santa Clarita our inventory is very low creating less competition securing you a higher dollar paid by buyer's on your home.
5. Spring is traditionally our busy time. If you sell your home now with less competition, if you're a move up buyer you will have no contingencies come Spring and be a stronger buyer.
6. There are options for you to sell your home and still remain in your home untill after the Holidays.
7. Buyer's are more emotional during the Holidays for that impulse buy and more likely to pay your price.
8. Homes show so beautifully when they are decorated for the Holdays.
9. You have the option not to show your home for a few days during the actual Holiday dates if you prefer.
10. Buyers have more time to look for homes during the Holidays if they have scheduled time off.
That last time I bought and sold my own home I did it during the Holidays. It can be hectic but in my case it was well worth it. The buyer of my home bought emotionally and I got a great deal because of less competition and seeing the potential of the home I bought.
Good advice, Laura. I have found the holidays to be a productive time, too. You're right that prospective buyers generally have more flexible time, and if they have kids they want to get them registered for school before the Spring semester starts. Thanks for the reminder.
