- a safe, supportive drop-in centre for the homeless and socially isolated people.

The Wychwood Open Door is part of our St. clair community.  It provides a safe place for social interaction.  It has been doing so, since 1986.

The recession has greatly affected everyone, including Wychwood Open Door.  Some of the members have lost their jobs and people from other parts of Ontario are coming to Toronto looking for work, and ending up at Wychwood Open Door.

Wychwood Open Door is appealing to the Community for donations, so they can help everyone in need.

Wychwood Open Door operates out of the Church basement, at St. Clair Avenue West, and Rushton.

If you are a person in need, you can drop in Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  A hot breakfast and lunch is served.

Over 14,000 meals were served in 2008.  There is a lot of need out there.

Other than a meal, you can also find volunteer members who provide help; encourage you, help to build your self-esteem and provide help from housing and addiction counselors.

Wychwood Open door is a registered charity, so you will get a tax receipt for your donation.

Things may be tight for you right now too, but think of those who can't even afford one hot meal per day.

Sylvie, These upcoming days can be so difficult for so many people.  I hope this place receives many donations for the wonderful work they are doing in the community.

Carole, I'm going to see them this week, to see if I can volunteer there.  The upcoming holidays are going to be very difficult for many people.  We all have to do what we can.

Brian, sometimes we're too busy to give these things a second thought.  I knew about it, but haven't thought about it ... and then I received a note on my door, since I live only two blocks away ...
So I will definitely be helping out.

Sylvie, In the early nineties, my church, St James Cathedral, began our program and on Tuesdays. On our first day we had a handful of people .  When I began coming to Naples in the winter in 1996, it had grown to hundreds and must now be huge.  We used to bring our cooked food and our rector's wife had a dog that she brought to break the ice with our visitors.  So many of these people were from the Clark, who had just been left to go out on the street. I can imagine with so many out of work this is so important.  Government cannot do it all.  It was such a rewarding experience for me.

Marcia, I was part of a program a few years ago, that collected left over food from bakeries, restaurants, etc., and delivered to food kitchens.  Sometimes it's hard to believe, just how many people need a meal every day.  It's also hard to believe how much people waste ... and how easy it would be to give it to a good cause...

You're right. Government can't do it alone ... and if everyone pitched in a tiny little bit, we may be able to help so many more.

Sylvie, I agree.  I just learned that our Naples Whole Foods gives all their leftover prepared food everyday to the food banks and shelters.  I like hearing those stories.  :-)

Me too ... and I've been trying to get a few other places to do the same thing ... and they will have to, if they want to get rid of me. :)
