According to the Clayton Pioneer a rare white hummingbird has been spotted in Clayton California.  Read the entire article by clicking here.

According to the hummingbird website www.RubyThroat.org this is extremely rare.

Couple things I learned while visiting www.RubyThroat.org were that hummingbirds are rarely seen in Europe and those are birds that have escaped captivity.  I had no idea they didn't have hummingbirds in Europe.

I also learned about hummingbird moths, which apparently act so exactly like a hummingbird that they are often mistaken for baby humming birds.  Hummingbirds do not leave the nest until fully grown, so you won't see a baby one flying around anywhere.

I just thought that was interesting, and it did remind me to fill my hummingbird feeder.  : )

I have put my hummingbird feeder away until spring.  They have flown south.  I've never seen a white one before... had no idea they existed.  Am headed to the web site now to check it out.  Thanks for sharing.

Wow!  A white hummie!  How cool is that!?  I just love to watch them at the feeders.  Always so busy ... and they can be pretty territorial too!

I love to watch them too Carol, and I've never seen one like this before.  I always kick myself when I see a little visitor to my feeder and then realize it's empty.  I have to be better about that if I want my little bird friends to visit.

Now that is something I have never seen.  But I guess if their are other animals with albinos, then why not hummingbirds as well.  And it's very interesting how there aren't any in Europe except for the rare ones that get loose.  Kinda like the fact that Cockatiels are pets here but are free-roaming birds in Australia.

Hi Ann - I thought the site was pretty interesting. Never occurred to me to learn more about hummingbirds, but why not?

Hi Jim & Maria - I had never seen it either.  I love animals, birds, reptiles, everything so when I came across this I was very curious.
