“What do you first do when you learn to swim?

You make mistakes.

And what happens?

You make other mistakes,

and when you have made all the mistakes you possibly can without drowning -

and some of them many times over -

What do you find?

That you can swim!

Well - life is just the same as learning to swim!

Do not be afraid of making mistakes, for there is no other way of learning how to live!”

Quote from Alfred Adler, an Austrain psychiatrist whose work gave us the term "inferiority complex.

I do believe though that we shouldn't swim with the sharks whether in the water, or in life. :)

Amen!  I don't know anyone that jumped in the water and took off to set a world record.  Have a great one, and keep avoiding the sharks.

Raymond,

You do the same!

Thanks for reading and leaving comments.

Great analogy! Why is it that I feel that I'm just learning to do the breast stroke while others are already gliding through with their fancy back stroke... and winning! ha-ha!

Judi

We have to learn to swim in life and business.

Good luck and success.

So true!  It's just a matter of working at it over and over.

And, like riding a bike, once you learn you never forget!

I am reminded that lots of agents in America have had to tread water for a good time now. Most have had tolearn to swim in order to stay alive.

Great post!

Judi,

I can't wait to keep making mistakes so I can learn so I can make fewer mistakes.  ;-)   Did that come out right?

Judi, what great posts (this one and the two that follow). Simple, illustrated, on point. When I go to bed tonight (OK, this morning) I'll be reflecting on your words.

Ruth,

I'm with you..

I'm not a good swimmmer so this analogy really hit me when I read the quote.

Thanks for coming by.

Irene,

I do wish that doing that would make me a better swimmer or a better operator in this life.

We have to keep trying to get better at the things that are important, regardless of our position.

Thanks for the comment.

Sure took me a while to learn how to swim.  But I kept trying and now, it's pretty good.

Same when I started my home inspection business.  Took awhile to get it off the bottom of the pool and actually stay afloat.  But it does float.  Just gotta keep stroking!
