November the 1st, is clock-setting-back-time.

Setting the clocks back in your house is the easy part,

unless you're like me. I have clocks in the bedrooms, offices,

den, cars, stove, microwave, wrist watches, coffee pot and the egg timer.

By the time I get them all done we're practically into Christmas.

Experts have put together some tips to keep

your clocks and body in sync.

GET UP WHEN THE ALARM GOES OFF.

Hitting the "snooze" button is tempting, but don't do it.

Just pick the bloody thing up and chuck it out the window.

GET SUNLIGHT.

The experts say, get plenty of sunlight

first thing in the morning. Apparently, this

sends a signal to your brain that night is over.

Personally, I run around naked for half an hour

snapping pictures. Works for me.

CUT DOWN ON THE CAFFEINE.

The experts tell us to minimize caffeine.

Apparently, you have energy when you shouldn't.

Yeah...right; I'm am not about to be giving up my caffeine.

EAT BREAKFAST.

If you skip breakfast and don't nosh 'till noon,

you won't be on full wake-up mode until then.

Maybe that's my problem...apple pie and coffee isn't breakfast?

DON'T HAVE A NIGHTCAP.

While it may help you fall asleep,

it will just wake you up a few hours later.

Following that logic, if you have several drinks,

you will wake up at the correct time.

Terry:  Two things.  Whaddya mean, apple pie and coffee isn't breakfast ?

And... I love the logic about several drinks.  But... I'm on heart meds.  My doc won't let me drink.  Now what ?

After last winter, I think we should set the temperature back in the summer and adjust it up in the winter.  Winter would feel much better if it was 10 degrees warmer and in the middle of summer I would gladly give up 10 degrees to have that warmer winter.

Charles,

Sounds like pretty sound logic to me. Last winter was brutal. Hope it's as bad this year; I'm going to Cabo.

We are so glad that Arizona does not ever go on daylight time and we do not have to worry about these issues.

You know growing up on a ranch in Texas we never abrutly changed the feeding times on the animals. Especially with the horses. Stabled horses have been know to colic and die when the feeding times have swung by 60 minutes. I know animals don't know about daylight savings time. Cows come to the trough at sunset, not a 6:00pm.

Me thinks you're encouraging bad habits...wouldn't it just be simpler if we all moved to the equator?

Ed,

I've heard that about animals; that's why they don't do it in Saskatchewan.

Nancy,

I'm not sure; now I'll have to look it up.

Sherry,

Me encourage bad habits?

I don't have a conventional (was going to say old-fashioned) clock in the house anymore. I think the only one I have to reset manually is the microwave. Oh yah, I guess my husband has one clock that neither of us bother to reset. For six months out of the year, he just adds an hour. He's talented like Brian Madigan. As for me, I'm waiting for my computer to pass on its good habits of auto reset to my mind and body.

Like you we must have about 20 or so to change and that's the only hard part about the time change for us. Mike and I both only need about 4 -5 hours of sleep on average.

Sue, I'm like that too; except if I do open houses and work 7 days straight; then I need a couple of extra hours one day.
