4. APPLIANCES: ENERGY is the way to go - save money! Save Energy!

5. Fruits and Vegetables: Select choices that are - Organic! Local! In-season!

(most important to avoid pesticides: Apples, bell peppers, Celery, Cherries, Nectarines, Peaches, Pears, Potatoes, spinach, strawberries - things with thin skins!!!)

Don't forget meat! Meat industry in USA is responsible for more gas emission then all of the cars that we are driving around.

In california we are lucky enough to have a wealth of organic fruit and vegetable options.....some of the best at the local farmers markets. Good suggestions!

Well, I'm good on four out of five. that's a start.

Good info....we just put geothermal in our new home. Very green as well.

Sonja - I heard recently that going vegetarian 1 day per week has a more positive impact on the environment than eating local year round - not sure about that, but worth investigating!

Scott - you are very lucky there - not only organic, but LOCAL!

My wife and I try to buy green as much as possible. I heard mix reviews about compact fluorescent light bulbs. I know they last longer which is great and they is why we have a bunch of them but I heard they are worse for the environment when you dispose of them.

What is you opinion?
