For those of us that are use to writing offers that are below the asking price.  Those times might be coming to an end.  But what are the signs that we should be looking for?

Negotiating power is key in a buyer's market but California Association of Realtors mentioned that buyers are still asking for less than the asking price but with slightly less negotiating power.  For more information click here.

Another key sign to look for is inventory levels.  In August the national inventory level dropped.  This is a good sign.

What signs have you noticed in your market?  Do you still have negotiating power?

I hope you are right Nancy. Inventory levels are dropping in my area as well but I attribute it to the First Time Homebuyers' program because the drop seems to be attributable to sales at the lower end price points while homes at the upper end are still slow to move or are being withdrawn.

It depends on the market. First time buyer homes (under 300K) are getting multiple offers, so no negotiating power for those; high end - over 1 million definately opportunities for negotiation. In general though, it's not what buyers have been hearing in the media; many still think they're going to get a bargain.

Hi Gloria and Marilyn:

Yes, the media likes to report doom and gloom. Prices are rising in our area, but the media is "mum" and ignoring that. I guess it's because it's Good News, and that doesn't sell as well as Bad News does.

Thanks for your comments.
