Last Monday, my husband and I both took the day off to celebrate my birthday. We decided to visit the PineTree Barn in Wooster Ohio. The Pinetree Barn is a 3 story shopping experience, with offerings from furniture to home decor to clothing, handbags, and jewelry. Inside the Barn is a lovely cafe where we, of course, had a delicious lunch (seafood stuffed crepes! Yummy!).

After lunch we took a stroll around the beautiful lake where I promptly convinced myself that I had to have a baker's rack that I saw in the store. So I went back in, paid for it, and they put me on the schedule for delivery today.

They called when they were about 10 minutes from my home. When I answered the door, the delivery man handed me a container with 2 muffins (they are known for their muffins) and 2 coffee mugs with "Pinetree Barn" on them. What a nice surprise. One of the mugs had a customer survey card in it which I will be sure to fill out and return.pinetree barn

The guys set up my baker's rack very carefully and were on their way. I was anxious to start arranging things on it so I started by cleaning the glass shelves. Once clean, I noticed a couple of significant scratches in 2 of the shelves. I immediately called and was directed to Katie. She could not have been more pleasant. She apologized for the scratched shelves and I did the same for not looking as closely as I should have. She then called the guys to see if they were still in the area and to ask them to come back here to pick up one of the shelves so she could order replacement shelves.

All done with a smile.

How much did her attitude matter? A TON. I highly recommend the Pinetree Barn for the unique shopping experience, the lovely cafe, and the wonderful people that work there.

Barb, great post and rightly featured here by our good friend C.  We need to always give kudos when deserved.  And I'm thinking how can I provide better service like that to my customers and clients?

Barb, that is customer service that is above and beyond! Now if the banks would just have that kind of service I wouldn't have a headache right now!

Happy Birthday Barb - this is added value to customer retention and R E F E R R A L.  You have spread the word from coast to coast.  Disney excels in this department and utilizes the same type of techniques.  Perhaps you could add a JV with Pinetree Barn and insert an article in their newsletter.  If not, insert there info in your physical newsletter calling out to all those people who understand details count that you not only recognize and acknowledge quality service, you take action

Barb, I'm a little late with the wishes but happy b-day.  What a lovely present.  Love the bakers rack and am very impressed with the quality of the customer service.  Isn't it a sorry state of affairs that this has become the exception rather than the norm?  They just bought themselves a customer for life and a truckload of referrals.
