Kitchen Remodeling, Potomac, Rockville, BethesdaOver the last 10 years, I have recognized the value of being connected on and off line. I joined LinkedIn, Plaxo, Merchant Circle, Face Book, Twitter, Trulia, Active Rain, Zillow, Naymz and others. I post to these sites periodically.

In the last couple of months, I have attended several presentations focused on using Social Media in business. And while I agree that it is great to be connected online, Finished basement, Home Theater One of our completed projects I still fail to see how my business can benefit from it. We can do beautiful work, but I don’t know if people will look for us online.

This blog is, in part, my attempt to contribute more to the online community and may be attract followers. http://4aadesign.wordpress.com/ I also posted pictures of our completed projects. Please take a look and let me know what you think. And become a fraiend if you wish

Alex, what a fabulous kitchen!  I like the light cabinetry with the white tile.  You have incorporated the door so nicely also.  Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Dana. This kitchen is for someone who has been waiting to have it done for 25 years. We wanted to make sure she gets exactly what she wants. It took a while, but she is soooo happy. It is very rewarding.

Blogging could help you build a relationship with your local real estate community. I'm constantly getting requests for references for builders and remodelers (especially) and I don't really have anyone that I would recommend. Put yourself out there and see what it brings you.

One more note: If you are posting photos of completed projects, including timelines and cost schedules (if your clients don't mind) would probably be very beneficial.

I am doing some of that blogging, let's see what it will bring. Check this link, is this what you are talking about?

Julia, we don't usually have pricing information on the website or attached to photos. Most of the work we do is custom designed. After all, we are a design-build remodeling company. So, even if customers have similar projects, the prices may differ substantially depending on their specific requirements, design and material selection choices etc.

I feel better when I talk to them about their budget in person. One of the reasons is that people often comment looking at the photos of our completed projects - "you are too high end for us". I always need to explain that price wise we are not high end at all, it just looks this way because the projects we do are well designed and executed.

That's kind of my thought behind giving time lines and prices right there. Many people will look and automatically think they couldn't afford it. You'll never hear from them at all. Even if you said something like 'Get this look in your own home at a price of $x-y' depending on finishes chosen.' it might help get the foot in the door for projects that you otherwise would never see.

Might not work for you, just throwing it out there....

You are correct Julia. I used to work with a coach who said: "Remember Alex, there is more than one right way". I think he is right.

Over the years I found that giving prices on the website may be a good thing, but it may be a bad thing too. Unfortunately, I don't know which approach works better and decided that I would rather talk to people first before giving any pricing information.

Here is an example, I recently talked to a couple who wanted to remodel their master bathroom. What good whould it do to tell them on the website that a new master bathroom may cost from $15K to $75K. After we talked, I found out the the budget they have is $25K. So, we oferred a solution in their budget.

Thank you again for your thought Julia. I will follow your advise: "Put yourself out there and see what it brings you."
