Facebook Networking - For the love of money...HIDE WHAT YOU DO FOR A LIVING !!

By

It's amazing me how people jump into something without first analyzing it.  I was in Facebook for about 2 years before I entered any bio info trying to figure out WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW THE SIZE OF MY UNDERWEAR?  Then I saw the potential and jumped in.  If there's one thing I can't stand, that's somebody that is constantly trying to SELL something on Facebook on their wall, when it's a "socializing" place...hey...isn't that what eBay's for?

Then there's the Real Estate Agents on Facebook...their friends are 500 other "Real Estate Agents".  What's that all about?  Do they plan to sell them a house?  And then there's the "Private" profile....how's that working for ya?

Here's all you need to know, and all you need to do to get your message out in Facebook:

Can you pass this simple TEST?

What does this Facebook guy do for a living?

What does this Facebook guy do for a living?

What does this Facebook girl do for a living?

What does this Facebook girl do for a living?

What does this Facebook guy do for a living?

What does this Facebook guy do for a living?

So...what does YOUR Facebook picture look like?  Simply put, your picture should do the advertising.

David, at first I didn't want other Realtors to befriend me on facebook either...but I can't tell you how many referrals I've gotten from Realtor friends on facebook.  Now..anytime a Realtor wants to be my friend...I invite them in with open arms....AND the bonus of it all...I've made some wonderful friends that way

Debbie...I can see that and agree, HOWEVER, I've also found that there are a ton of places to market agent-to-agent without getting into the details of one's personal life. I've found it extremely helpful before going on a listing presentation to find my prospect on Facebook and if successful, I know where they graduated, the kind of work they do, what they look like, their wife, kids, who their friends are, etc. and you feel like you know them personally before you meet. The Realtors I'm really referring to are the "local" ones...I'm ALL FOR the out-of-state one's and have a few.

David,  I never thought about pulling up a clients Facebook profile but I do Google them and it helps!

Jim...my theory there is "people do business with friends", so if you find a friend or other connection, it's easy to establish a closer relationship.  My last cold prospect graduated college with my daughter and was the same religion and political belief and had 3 common friends.

Great post David.  I am a HUGE believer in FB and all it has to offer.  I am friends with agents in my office and a few others in my area, but not many from out of my direct area.  That's what Active Rain is for right?

I like how you find your potential on FB, I have been doing that for a while now.  Even when I get a name from an open house or a lead from my website, the first thing I do is find them on FB and send them a request.  It has opened many doors.

For a while I didn't friend clients on facebook because I figured that if I posted something personal I wouldn't want my clients to see it. I then decided that if I didn't want a client to see something it probably shouldn't be on facebook anyway. Problem solved.

Sorry, but I could never have a profile pic of myself with a RE sign. I'm just not that cheesarific. LinkdIn, yes, Facebook, no. I occasionally mention something RE related just to remind people what I do but never anything that sounds like a sales pitch.

Julia, I'm not sure I know what "cheesarific" is

So you suggest becoming a Secret Agent uh :). I am just enjoying the day, don't do face book whatever that is. But I do wear my name tag pretty much everywhere but Church.

Thanks for connecting "a picture is worth a thousand words" to FB.  I'll have to reconsider my FB photo.

Joe...I mix my picture up and currently have one of me standing by a sign some 35 years ago lol.

I think what I've found about FB more than anything is it's not necessarily "finding" a new prospect as much as it is "NOT LOSING A FRIEND" to another agent as when they say "WELL, I DIDN'T REALIZE YOU WERE STILL IN THE BUSINESS OR I WOULD HAVE CALLED YOU".  That's happened in the past.
