*** Regarding the I-40 rock slide, here are: Alternate Routes to Maggie Valley ***

On the 'want’ list of the majority of home buyers when they come to Haywood County is: home on a creek. NOTE: no water flows into Haywood County. Each and every creek, stream and river in the County actually originates in Haywood County.

Listen (on the video) to the reason many people want to live on a creek. (Video filmed Sunday, October 25, 2009, in Maggie Valley.)

Here’s a map showing the creek I videoed that runs parallel between Moody Farm Road and Soco Road.

Great post!  In this area, everyone wants to live on a lake.  But the largest lakes do not allow homes, and the smallest lakes have already been well built up around.  Homebuyers are amazed that lakefront lots usually start at about $200K....  On the other hand, there are so many lakes here that nearly every area is within 10 minutes of a great place to walk, visit, picnic, and more.

I won't retire either.

When I havebeen to Maggie with the Music City Harley club, we have always stayed at a motel just east of  "Wheels through Time" that is on the creek.  We had some wonderful barbeques there, borrowing the local fire dept. barbecue cooker.

Penny, what I love about the creeks is the sound (when they are rushing), but any living on the water can be so peaceful. I didn't realize you have so many lakes in the Triangle area.

Jim, I bet there was some great food at your B-B-Ques! Thanks for commenting.

How can we retire when our profession is simply too much fun ... even in the hard times. I just meet too many great folks.

And there is simply nothing like hearing the sound of water as you fall asleep!

Great video of that rushing creek, Susie. Now that's the life. My grandparents home was in Yancey county and on Cattail Creek, so that was the sound that put us to sleep every night as we slept with the doors and windows opened. As much as we love our view, I do miss that soothing rush of the creek.

That sound has to be the most relaxing sound on earth.  Combine it with the scenery ... a total winner!
