Help! Dogs Need You In Wisconsin!!!!

Yesterday, 27 October 2009, The Wisconsin Assembly passed AB-250, the Commercial Dog Breeders Licensure Bill, by unanimous vote, 96 to 0!!!! What a great day for dogs and the people who love them in Wisconsin.

Rep. Jeff Smith asked that the vote be dedicated to Wilbert Ribbens, who passed away the day before the public hearing on this bill. Mr. Ribbens was a great animal lover whose letter to his daughter about a sick, sad pet store puppy over 10 years ago laid the groundwork for the Wisconsin Puppy Mill Project and, incidentally, today's vote.

Next hurdle: SB-208 will be debated by the Joint Finance Committee on 28 October. Please see our JOINT FINANCE COMMITTEE ALERT for action you can take to help get SB-208 into the full Senate on 5 November!

Your help is needed NOW to move SB 208, the Senate version of the Dog Breeder Licensure Bill, through the Joint Finance Committee.

Please email the members of the Joint Finance Committee to ask them to pass SB 208 out of their committee without any further changes or amendments.

We MUST get the Senate bill out of the Joint Finance Committee this week in order to get it to the Senate floor on November 5th, the LAST day of the Senate Session.

Both bills, AB 250 and SB 208, MUST pass in order for this worthy legislation to become LAW.

Does this Bill mean dog breeders must have a License to breed puppies? I hope so because there really should be some rules and regulations for breeding. I will pass this information along.

Terrie, not only that, but also puts a limit on the number of puppies/year a breeder can breed. Thanks for the support!

Kristen, I hope all your clients in Wisconsin receive this notice and that they act upon it. It would be great if they could adjust the number of litters with the oversupply of puppies so the animal shelter numbers could get caught up with. Our shelters are overflowing in our area(Lafayette, IN) and in many cases they will not take in anymore abandoned animals.
