Hello folks,

Thought I would share some pics of the backyard wildlife I just had the pleasure of experiencing. Was sitting on my back lania which doubles as my office when I heard an odd noise. Looked up and it was the momma wildcat and right behind her was a baby. The wildcat was roughly 8 feet away from me and when the baby saw me she ran off into the brush.

Went and got my camera and followed them into the brush (barefooted by the way) and got a couple nice pictures. There were actually 2 babies with the momma.

Here is a pic of the momma. She is a bit bigger than the normal house cat.

Here is one of the babies. he decided to plop down in the shade and take it easy. I was about 12 feet away when taking picture.

Hope you've enjoyed the pictures.

you are brave to approach baby for pictures with momma around, she could have gotten vicious,,, Nice captures.

Great pictures, but I'm with Caron on this one. It's a leap of fate to get that close the youngsters w/ the mom so close. But it's something my husband probably would have done too:) Didn't know you had spotted cats in Florida. Ours are solid colored in California.

Thanks for the comments and your concerns about "momma", but the mother wildcat didn't seem too concerned with me being around. She looked at me and kept on walking (slowly).... even when I was close to the babies, she wasn't concerned.

I was keeping an eye on her though .... being that I was barefoot and all. Don't need to loose a toe or two just for a picture.

Hey Ross .... yes taken with new camera. I purchased the Vivitar vivicam X024. I like it so far but one thing I do NOT like is that when outdoors in the sun, it is extremely difficult to look at the subject with the LCD screen due to the glare.... but takes very nice pictures.

Sean these pics are so cool.  I would have been mesmerized watching the family.  Rare to see them at all in Fl.

Sean,

I did enjoy the photos. But would not want to tangle with her in a crawl space.

COOL!  I saw something that looked like this in my yard a couple weeks back, too dark for a photo tho.

Neat pictures Sean. For some reason, the Mama looks bigger than that...

Thanks for the comment. Fort Myers, Florida has a plethera of wildlife from Wildcats, black bears, Florida panthers, Pythons, Nile Monitor Lizards (up to 7ft in length) alligators and more. many times it is like living in the jungle.  A GREAT place to live.

Sean, very cool pictures.  While out on my patio at night...no lights on...I've been thinking of the recent reports of cougars and wild pigs in the Southeast...now that is a little scary not knowing what's out there in the dark...think I'll turn a light on.

Sean: cool pics! How much does momma weigh? She looks pretty fierce for her small size.

Hey LLoyd ..... I have no idea of Momma's weight. Haven't gotten up enough nerve to try and pick her up and weigh her as of yet, but give me a few beers and I might try. LOL
