Gold Canyon Arizona Blockbuster Slated to Close

Must be a sign of the times and economy ...... the Blockbuster in Gold Canyon located in the Basha's shopping plaza at 5301 S. Superstition Mountain Dr is slated to be closing , according to local press. It is one of four stores that the company has decided to close in the Phoenix Metro area.

Apparently the actual date of the closing is not defined at this point, but it will discontinue renting movies and games and will only be selling new and used movies and games. There are plans for Blockbuster to place a Kiosk in the Bashas’ grocery but, the kiosk will only have new release movies available.

In order to rent older movies or games customers will be sent to nearby full-service Blockbuster locations. The closest full service location to Gold Canyon that is offering these services is located at 400 S Idaho Rd, in Apache Junction Arizona.

Hi Bob and Carolin, Sorry about the loss of your local BB. We finally went to netflix. They carry about everything and turn times are excellent.

We just saw ours in Aloha is doing the same thing. I think they are losing to sites like Netflix.

I'm surprised some of ours around here haven't closed. We still have full-service stores within just a couple of miles of each other. I get movies from Blockbuster online; only rarely at the store.

People are voting with their dollars, and Netflix has the inventory and price point without the bricks and mortar. Send Out Cards will do the same for American Greetings and Hallmark in the greeting card industry, IMHO. They've continued to innovate and drive down the cost to under a buck.

Bob and Carolin, I think it is the sign of the times. I rarely go to blockbuster anymore. I'm surprised more of their stores are not going out of business to be honest.
