Tunnel on the Blue Ridge ParkwayThere are many prognosticators that say the economy is bottoming out, while some say that there are darker days head. Regardless of who is right and who is wrong there is one thing that is certain:

The human spirit is quite resilient. And no matter how bad things seem to be getting, there are always opportunities to look towards better things that may ahead. And while the road ahead may be fraught with unknown perils, after all is said and done we can emerge from the depths of depression with a new appreciation for all that is good and positive in the world.

And we don't have to make the best of a bad situation; instead, we can make a bad situation better with hard work and determination. It's not always going to be easy, but it is doable and perseverance will get us through the obstacles that lie ahead.

And although we don't exactly need tunnel-vision, we should remain focused. After all, the straighter we travel, the faster we get there!

10 Comments on Is there a light at the end of the tunnel or are we just getting in deeper and deeper over our heads?

I really do think there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  I think the american consumer needs to understand delayed gratification.  We, especially now, are a microwave society.  We want everything now now now, but we forget how much more fulfulling it is to work hard for something and achieve a goal.  Even if that goal is nothing more than a big tv or a new car.

Very good point of view of the situation we find ourselves in.

And no matter how bad things seem to be getting, there are always opportunities to look towards better things that may ahead. And while the road ahead may be fraught with unknown perils, after all is said and done we can emerge from the depths of depression with a new appreciation for all that is good and positive in the world.

Really love this statement, and the comment from David about our "microwave society". Still remember growing up and the lessons learned about "delayed gratification". All of the "things" that I amassed over the years have had a lot more meaning when I had to earn them, and not been given them.

David...

That was very well stated. I appreciate the fact that you took the time to write such a fine comment.

Jim...

Richard, what a wonderful post, I really love it. You have made such great points, I think my favorite is..

And we don't have to make the best of a bad situation; instead, we can make a bad situation better with hard work and determination.

That says so much, I want to make a bad situation better, that is what we all need to do.

I hope we all learned. This is such a tough time for so many, if we didn't learn then we will certainly repeat this over and over again. I want to put myself in check too. I fall into that tug of wanting things. What stops me is... I won't put it on credit. If I can't pay cash then I won't get it. That helps a whole lot, but certainly cuts down on what I buy, what we do. I am trying!

Richard....tunnel vision is never a good thing! Even when you are focusing on your goals, you still want to see what's around you. Keep your eye on the road, but know what other options surround you.

Great post!

Richard great advice.  I've always believed it is up to each of us individually whether we succeed.  The economy might make it more of a challenge, but it is not a reason to quit.

Richard, I think that it is a speeding train. Really though, when folks engage in tunnel vision, they loose sight of the big picture...

Richard,

All to often we go off on a rabbit chase and we do need to get back on a straighter path.

There will always be those that argue with one another as to whether the economy will get better or worse, and I say let them argue. While they are trying to figure out the economy, I am going to move on with life and press forward.
