Today was tour day, or caravan day, or get-in-your-car-and-fill-it-with-your-friends-and-go-see-houses day.

I feel that touring is a must when you are a beginning agent.  Not only do you get to know the inventory but you get to learn the streets.  After 30 years I still feel guilty if I don't tour.

Today, while leaving one of the houses, I noticed there was an all-glass storm door right there on that front door.  The main door was open so it was so hard to see the storm. No, I didn't walk into it but I very well could have.  Or a client could have.  And a client might!  It is very simple to stick one of those little papers up about eye height for safety.

The listing agent was there being nice and acting as hostess.  I yelled out to her that I'd advise her to put a sticky note on that storm door.  I like her a whole lot and wouldn't want her to have an injured party on the premises.  I hope she appreciated it instead of thinking that old Barbara Duncan was being bossy again.  But sometimes I do think I should keep my mouth shut.

I know it's hard sometimes, Barbara.  Hard for me, too.

Barbara - I think with your experience - you have earned the right to be as "bossy" as you see fit!  Some of the "newer" folk - could sure use some lessons on how to be a good agent for a real Pro !

Better to tell someone that than a person end up with an accident.

Sandra, let's work on it.

James, you're a true activerain friend.  Thanks.

Zane, no sticks.  Although if you'd been close by when you scared me to death and broke my computer the other night I might have hit you with one.  LOL

Trey, I've had clients with me who didn't see the door and bumped it.  No injuries yet but it can happen.

Konnie, you're a bad bad girl!!  LOL

Bob & Carolin, that's what I thought.

Laura, I don't watch TV so I miss all those fun commercials.  It's too hard to sit through the never ending bad ones just to see a goodie.

"Old Barbara Duncan" as you put it, has probably a lot more experience than most of the other agents in her office.

I'm thinking that your advice was well taken and not thought of as anything but constructive help.

We sat at a park one day to watch people scream while running away. The area had motion sensors that were triggering sprinklers. Normally I have a big mouth too Barbara but it was just too much fun to warn anyone away. However a glass door... I can see why you did.

Dear Godmother,

I assure you that you are quiet, polite and subdued. Just compare yourself to that mean and nasty Mrs Kate. You are a prize.

Or she could compare herself to you but that means a tree rat and Ms. Barbara's my good friend so I would never suggest that.

btw, Nutsy, Ms Barbara is married to a squirrel hunter. Quite a hero I hear. Heheh

I would have told her the same thing. Btw Nutsy is a trouble maker. Ms. Kate is a nice lady.

Barbara -

This just highlights how important it is not to clean your windows.  Someone could get hurt.

Zane, you know you need a whuppin'!

Now, Kate, that would be fun.  Seeing someone spill blood after a broken storm door???  Perhaps not as much fun.

James, you've got things all mixed up.  Nutsy is a fine fellow!

Coleen, I've been looking for an excuse and you just gave me one.  We've got those awful triple pane windows and no one wants to clean them!

Craig, thanks for agreeing with me!

Nutsy!!  I've been worried about you but you are here to protect me still!!!

It's a good safety reminder - if it could have happened to you then it couldhave happened to someone else!

Barbara - That was really a good observation on your part and a nice gesture to pint it out.  I am sure she appreciated your input.

Coleen, agreed.  No clean.

Liz, it really is an easy thing to forget but so necessary with all glass storm doors.

Carol, thanks.  I hope so.

Barbara, life is to short to worry about offending people in an instance such as this. You were right in what you did.

8:05am • #21

Barbara,

You are right on many counts...safety first, and caravan IS a great place for a newbie to learn and obtain some free "seasoning" and an occasional different point of view.

Great post as always!

all the best...

Thanks for the hint as I often write about home safety but I've never included this pointer.

Gerry, thanks.  I feel better.

Bill, without touring, the newbies will quickly be gone.  You know, it's hard to learn all the streets in a town and hard to keep up even when you've been in real estate for years.  Don't say use the GPS because it will not have new streets.

Tina, add it because it can be scary.

Barbara, I'd of said the same thing.  I as well am a big believer in touring and I've yet to use a GPS.
