I will let readers of our e-news from Citizens FOR Pets in Condos* know about this new service through the Florida Attorney General's office. This is an additional place where excesses by condo attorneys can be reported. The attorney general, HUD FHAPs (local Fair Housing Assistance Partners) and also the Florida Commission on Human Relations should know about cases like this:
A person with a disabling medical or mental health condition is allowed to have an emotional support animal in "no-pet housing", but they must sign unreasonable stipulations, eg:
They can not issue any fair housing complaints against the association, but the association reserves the ability to make them remove their animals at a later time;
They can only walk dogs in areas that are not safe (no lighting at night, near canals with alligators, etc;
They cannot bring their animals to other neighbors units (even when the neighbors want to see the animals or offer to take care of the animals);
They are not "allowed" to join groups with other animal owners, in drect violation of Florida statute 718.123 Right of owners to peaceably assemble.
*Citizens FOR Pets in Condos http://www.petsincondos.org is a non-profit public advocacy and educational organization dedicated to increasing acceptance of companion animals in condos and other types of association-run housing. We educate the public about the health benefits of having animal companions and also advocate for responsible pet ownership/guardianship. Our motto: "creating a win-win situation for both people & pets."
We provide resources for a pet-friendly America/Florida
