Alan GraysonJust heard on TV that Alan Grayson calls himself "Congressman with the guts". No questions, this is a very catching tag line. But if we think about it, I can see rednecks with a lot of guts in every local bar.

What I do not see in abundance in local bars is the mental capacity of a statesman. But I do not see it in Alan Grayson as well.

We are getting to the point where cheap and cheesy get the center stage.

What about "Congressman with the brain" for a change?

It would be nice to see congressmen with a brain, perhaps they are the ones not in the news as often.

How about a congressman with the good of the people / nation at heart? Congressmen (and president) are only concerned about their ego (power). The current bills, programs, and policies are more detrimental to taxpayer than ever in history.

Who's got more brains, Grayson or the Republicans he took to school?

Very nicely said, Jon.  It's a shame that stunts and antics now seem to be enough to elevate a politition to center stage.

Nogui - When did you stop beating your dog? Does it take any brains for me to create a sideshow at your expense?

This is the smart guy who called a lobbyist a "K street whore".  Correct?  Doesn's sound very smart to me, and I'd be embarrassed if he were my rep.

Chris - got the hint. He is not my rep either, but close, so I am accepting condolences

Kryste - I hope you are right. I hope that there are plenty of good hearted people with brain, we just do not hear them, as they are not scandalously popular

John - We had concerns about the substance, and we do. But this is not even about the substance, it is simply about the form. I do ot think people are happy having such a representative in Congress

Nogui - having brain does not go along the party lines. One either has it, or not. In my opinion Alan Grayson does not. A bit surprising given his education. Usually good education broadens the horizons.

Well, every rule has the exceptions

So, do you find him cute or clever with all his posture and remarks? Really? In case of Alan Grayson I would repeat the same phrase "the defence rests" because he is bringing more damage to himself than any critic could do. So let him self destruct.

Nogui, what is so wonderful in Alan's remarks besides that he is a democrat? And what would be left if for a minute you manage to forget that he is a democrat?

Unfortunately they're all relative and subjective terms.....what for one person is a brain, for someone else might be brain dead?.......

Liz - that's true, but  thereis still something in people that when we listen to them we either see substance, or just cheap antics.

I did not say that because he is on theother side of the  political isle. He is simpy not a clever person, and not a person sensitive to other people's aspirations

If I lived in his district, I would be starting a grass roots movement to have him looking for another job.

Ha ha...I heard about his web-site this AM. He is outrageous.

Can you imagine, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington saying or acting like this?

We need true statesmen and patriots not guts to rise up.

Jon - I don't think it is an issue of no brains, he did get a Harvard law degree. However, I think it is more of a case of no character or integrity. He is seizing sensationalism to get his name plastered all over the news and he is disparaging as many as he can because he feels that they are unsympathetic and people will cheer for him for such disrespect of his peers. Will it cost him his seat next year, probably not because it will be the same brain dead people that cheer for his disreputable antics that will re-elect him for them.

But does he have guts? Well, isn't his the same congressman that held a town hall meeting in a small union hall, immediately following a union meeting which effectively kept any opposing views outside of the meeting? Doesn't sound like a lot of guts to me.

Jon - you can also look at it like this: his name is now more popular in all sorts of districts than pretty much any other, and even people who can't affect his future in public service know who he is.  That, in an of itself, might just be a deliberate and rather smart thing to have done.:-)

Oh yeah, and as far as class goes - what do you think of Joe Wilson?

Jon,

The man is a buffoon with a complete lack of integrity.

Mike -  that was my big problem with that. But education, the  school itself is not the same as intellect, and upbringing, and intelligence...

He can demand a refund from his college, he did not get what he was offered. he discounted himself

Inna - if someone goes out in public completely naked, does he/she become "famous"? Sure. All stations would run the piece. What would we call his person? Crazy?

Well, let me introduce a audaciously naked Alan Grayson

Joe Wilson? Well, he impatiently called the president what he is, a liar. He was not supposed to call a liar a liar, but he did. For me it was a class act. A bit more of acts like that, and this president may start lying a bit less.

Mr. Grayson is not calling things what they are, even if this is not PC. No, he found second meaning for holocaust, and now for a whore.

Ken - hold to your money. Floridian will take care of him. Unless they all choke from laughter watching his escapades

9:39pm • #26

I think he's got a little more class than Cheney, who once told Reid to "go f*ck himself"in front of everybody

Are we really now expecting politicians to be polite? Granted the whore comment was way out of hand. He shouldn't have said that. But his remarks on the obstructionist Republicans are on the mark.

I don't think it has anything to do with intergrity or character. It's just someone who's pissed off at the shenanigans. Of course I wouldn't expect the conservative thinkers here to agree with that assessment simply becuase we don't share the same beliefs. If he was arguing your beliefs, you'd all be patting him in the back and saying what a patriot he is.

Like I said, Republicans are just as guilty of the same thing and unless IOIYR, I rest my case.

Nogui - wow, I did not figure what IOIYR is, need to ask Inna, she usually saves me.

As for democrats or republicans, this was not the issue. Harvard does not make people smart. I do not blame Harvard for that.

As for Cheney, you may hate it, but Harvard wouldn't have been ashamed of him. Not seeing it is the trap that you are mentioning here, when you say that if something is not along the party line, and your affiliation, then... you know what is then (LOL).

As for the actual Cheney's phrase, that;s what Alan Grayson is most probably doing. Screwing his own career

10:48pm • #28

Its Okay If Your Republican = IOIYR

Like I said, it has less to do with integrity or character, and more with being PO'ed off. Frankly, the man has balls.

He did the same thing to one of the pseudo journalists at Fox who tried to ambush him- lol.

I do agree Grayson needs to watch what he says. He's in the spot light now and every comment he says will be scrutinized until Fox can conclude that he's a communist sympathizer- (sarcasm)

Nogui - It's OK If You're Republican? I would have never figured this out. I even googled it, found a few of them, but not deciphered.

Nogui, having balls, having guts is only meaningful when you have brains. Or you simply become a bully. A lot of guts, and a lot of balls... so what?

And see how differently we see the same situation with the journalist. By the way a pseudo journalist is someone who pretends to be a journalist for whatever reason. Was this guy pretending? And where on earth did you see Grayson's balls when he was so shy to answer a single question. Suggesting to make an appointment that he would not agree to (as he had declined the invitation to Fox repeatedly) is only telling me that he is a castrated bully.

Ambush? What ambush? The guy comes to you with the mike and you either talk or run. He ran. With his tail between his legs. You mistakenly took it for the balls.

Gerorgia - I actually missed that. I saw it in the commnets, but I missed the whole thing in the media

8:29am • #32

Jon, just because you don't agree with the man's principles, you can't go around calling him stupid. I mean you can, but what does it say for you?

Georgia, I agree, he should have never had said that in public and he should apologize if he hasn't already. I'm not going to defend that. Even if the woman was the head lobbyist for Enron, who defaruded millions of Americans. Maybe thief would have been a better choice of words.

Nogui - I understand what you are saying, and, again, I am not looking at Alan Grayson along the party lines here. It is not a matter of discussing his views, or proposals. I am simply stunned at a level to whihc he brings the discussion.

When people are well educated, you can usually pick it. You may not like what they say, but you can usually pick the nterllect. In this case I don't.

I also think that I am far from being alone.
