Senators in both parties are hoping to add the first time home buyer credit to a bill that would give people running out of unemployment benefits up to 20 more weeks of federal aid. The Senate may vote on the overall bill as early as 10//29/2009.

 

Also in this bill is a provision that will offer a $6,500 tax credit for repeat buyers who have owned their home for at least five years.

 

These credits will be available for buyers who sign sales agreements by the end of April 2010 and close by the end of June

Home buyers should not assume that the program will be extended until the legislation is passed.
