Beware of the pictures and language you post on social media profiles.

As more and more people post profiles on social media sites (facebook, friendfinder, myspace...) it is important to remember that your pictures can be used against you and the same thing holds true for your senseless and offensive comments and posts.

Posting things like profanity, angry and offensive opinions, party pictures where you are drunk and obviously acting silly, scantily dressed pictures, suggestive pictures... can hurt you professionally as many people these days will look you up on the social platforms before picking up the phone...

This is especially true for many single professionals who forget that social media sites are not just a place to socialize, vent off or get a date. If you are single, then join a singles website for that purpose.

I think the issue here is that many people forget to have some privacy settings made on their social media profiles to avoid showing the public and prospects things that are private and that may cost them business or cause security concerns.

The best policy is to have permission based photo viewing/sharing and to watch your language on your posts.

Remember, are your hundreds or thousands of profile "friends" you have really personal friends or just virtual friends?

I agree - it is important to use the public and private options for viewing photos and comments, for example on your Facebook account.  Thanks for the reminder.
