IT'S ALWAYS LUNCH TIME IN HILLSBORO.  I cannot pass the Farmers Market in Hillsboro at the intersection of Charles Town Pike and Hillsboro Road without picking up lunch.  This Farmers Market always has delicious breads, fruits and vegetables and pantry goodies like pumpkin butter, jams, preserves, etc.

FRESH BAKED GOODS

Delicious Whole Grain Breads.  Whole Wheat and Rye were available yesterday.

Huge cookies, pumpkin cake, Granola that is without doubt the very best I have ever tasted.

Much of the prepared foods that they offer have a base of seasonal fruits and veggies.

Pumpkin is the flavor today with pumpkin bread, pumpkin butter that is the most delicious topping for toast or crackers I can remember.

If you like apple butter, you'll LOVE pumpkin butter.

WINTER VEGETABLES

Squashes of every color and flavor.  These delicious morsels carry us through the winter with staples of winter squashes.

Butternuts, Acorns, Spagetti, and others that I can't name but I know them all to be delicious, easy to cook baked or microwaved.

With only 65 calories for a cup of squash, you can enjoy as much as you like.

What a beautiful post. I am going to have to learn how to post photos like you. I am not nearly as creative or visual as you.

This post looks awesome!

We only have "farmers market' one day a week and it's closed some times of the year.  But I too can never just drive by without making a stop to get something.  Tomorrow it will definitely be the Halloween pumpkins and I'll be drying and then roasting those seeds.  YUMM!  I am so jealous you have everyday farmers market!

Rich.  I looked at your blog and you've got a good handle on posting photos.  I think you're fine.

Tammy.  I can't wait to try to make some pumpkin butter next week.  It is fabulous.  I expect it will have to bake about 12 hours.  Or, maybe I'll try the Slow Cooker.

Hi Lenn - Now you've made me hungry!  I have bought pumpkin butter in the store, but I never thought of making it myself.  Is it difficult?

Susan.  Not at all.  Just add a bit of sugar and cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves to pumpkin puree and bake for about 12 hours stiring every 2 hours or so.

I'm going to try it in the slow cooker next week.

Lenn, my mind stopped working at pumpkin butter - that really sounds delicious.  I love pumpkin anything, but have never heard of pumpkin butter!  I'm going to try it.

Lenn, I stopped over here to check on the scavenger hunt entries that are using your post & love the thought of using the slow cooker to make pumpkin butter.  Will you let us know how it turns out?

Sheldon.

It is indeed a class act.  I can't drive by without stopping for seasonal vegetable or fruits and their breads are fantastic.

This is a full time Farmers Market located right on the corner of their organic farm where they grow bounties of vegetables.  You can see the farm in operation throughout the year.  It's fantastic.

It's located right on the route to and from my gunsmith, so I'm by there regularly.

Susan. Indeed I will.  I'm tied up the rest of this week but I'll get to it next week.

Mary.  I'm sure you can find it around any place where pumpkins grow.  I don't know about CO.

Gabe.  My pleasure.

I just got approval from the state for a new Trap gun that I'll be picking up this afternoon and I'll be driving by the Farmers Market.  Mmmmmmmm.

Lenn, I see you added Sterling to your map, thanks! Now I know where my sister lives - and was Ashburn on there before? The post you were writing about was Ashburn. Great map!

Sheldon.  I visit my gunsmith often because I'm often tweaking a shotgun, a habit of many shooters.  I also buy guns through my gunsmith because he has a license to sell and gets things directly from the factory.  Sadly, that Farmer's Market is right on my route.  Hard to drive by.

Frank and Sharon.  I can't keep up with this map.  I thought Sterling was always there.  Ashburn surely was.  I expanded it to add Lowes Island to the Grid Map, but Lowes Island is in Sterling, not Ashburn.  It got kind of confusing.

You post looks absolutely tasty!  Baking is one of my favorite things about fall.

Happy Halloween!

Bev.  Me too.  Getting away from the salads and summer veggies into the winter veggies and fruits.  Apples are one of my favorite foods.  Good soups and stews.  Don't forget breads.  I love good whole grain bread.

Lenn, is Lowe's Island the large green area in #9? This is the map/grid we were talking about - and I thought it was the one in the post above. Now I remember! :)

Frank and Sharon.  Lowes Island is in grid 6A.  I added it just for Lowes Island.  However, it is not a part of Ashburn.  Lowes Island has a Sterling address.

Oh, now I'm ready to VISIT there AND shop. We are lucky to have several farmer's markets in Tulsa, and I LOVE buying squash in the fall & winter-time. I've never heard of pumpkin butter, but now am going to have to try it.

Tonight I'm roasting butternut squash with onions, red seedless grapes, olive oil, salt & pepper. Yum.

Do you use a particular kind of pumpkin when making pumpkin butter? I've never even heard of it before.

Lori.

Butternut squash is one of my favorites, with onions of course.  I bake it and it's delicious and I leave out the oil, etc.  A pure vegetable flavor is more to my liking.  Wait, I forgot the freshly ground pepper.

I use the small pumpkin that I steam and then bake for about 4 hours until it's well evaporated and "buttery".  I haven't gotten to trying it in the slow cooker, but plan to.
