The Google Story - A Video Story Book

This just came out and was put together by the folks over at Google.  A two minute video that I expect will go viral shortly.  Takes you back from the beginning before Google, in 1995, when two mathematicians meet for the first time at Stanford.  Then you're fast forwarded onto the present "Google Wave!" It's Creative, It's Brilliant... It's Google. :-)

"It's already had over 100 views!!"

Get ready, I think they might be about to "Turn The Page!"

Hi Brad,

Not sure if it is my computer but it loads then stops.  I am waiting with anticipation the arrival of Windows 7 so that I can say goodbye to Vista.

Brad, I think these guys at Google may be on to something.

If they keep at it, they're going to be successful!!!

Sharon - it's probably not you, maybe the video has already gone viral and just too many people are watching it right now... I wonder if that would slow it down?

Craig - haha~  I'll keep my fingers crossed for them! :-O  lol~

As Craig said, they may just be successful, if they keep at it.
They've come a long way in such a short period of time ... and I'm guessing in another 5 years, there will be 5 more minutes added to that video (which played with no problem for me).

Funny how Youtube came out with this video on the same day! Hmmm... Doesn't Google own Youtube? Looks like a video marketing campaign going on here no? :-)

Hi Brad - It really is amazing how relatively quickly Google grew from an idea to a verb (googling) in everyone's vocabulary in a relatively short time.  They have so many more products than their search engine too - I can't wait to see what's next!

Brad - this is so cool. Google is an amazing company, in many ways. Can you imagine how it will look just a couple of years from now, given how fast things are moving. I bet that getting a job at Google is a major challenge. But the opportunities, especially for developers, as well as for folks who enjoy mergers and acquisitions, must be pretty exciting.

Google has come so far in such a short time.  I didn't even own a PC until 1996.  Wow it's amazing how far everything has come.  I liked the YouTube clip too.

I have a total love/hate relationship with Google! I love some of their products, but I hate the way they've taken over, and ruined some of my previously enjoyable products; primarily YouTube. Google owes ME hundreds of dollars right now! I'm in the partner program at YouTube (whose entire community has been destroyed by Google). So YouTube did not "join" Google. It was bought. Let's get the wording right. And I absolutely refuse to use Chrome. They have many products that I like, and even need. But I despise what they've done to some of the products they've taken over.

Sore spot? Oh yeah! They need to pay me, and then we'll see how I feel about the giant that doesn't give a crap about who it steps on.

Wow Lisa - had I known all that, I would have posted this while you were on vacation or out of town.  It certainly wasn't done intentionally to ruffle anyone's feathers.  Shall we drive over to Mountain View and get you your money back?  I bet we could form a small posse??  :-))

Well seeing as how it's been featured here on AR it will definately go viral. Are we supposed to take medicine for that? :)

Hi Brad, Watching Google over the years has been like watching your kid grow! I have routed for them all the way. It's funny, just when you wonder what they can possibly come up with next they just blow your socks off. What would you most want them to do soon?

Here's to their future!

1:08pm • #36

The video was somewhat interesting about Google's history, but nothing to Gush or go GaGa about.  I found the techinal aspect of creating the video more interesting than the content.  One exception:  Unless I just missed it, I didn't see any mention of Google Voice.  Since it's still only available by invitation, I wonsder what's going on with it.  I've read some negatives about its usability when keeping your existing cell phone number.

1:22pm • #37

John - I too saw the video as creative and brilliant in production and also noticed many of the Google tools and products left out. Understandably so at trying to keep the video to 2 minutes. It would be hard to cram in all of these services into that short time.

The google voice and google wave are both invitation only items which is probably allowing them to test and de-bug with realtime users and testers. I do use google voice and aside from the transcripts that are rarely accurate, I do find it to be useful in many ways for the amount of phone calls I receive. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate ALL points of view and perspectives.

Brad - Cool stuff! It's hard to imagine that Google Maps has only been around since 2005 - seems like longer. I remember when Google launched in 1998 - we were optimizing our Austin real estate site for Altavista, Excite, and Yahoo back then. :)

Google rocks! I use google for everything!

Email, calendar, voice, contacts, alerts, text messages, call screening/answering, documents, social networking, online profile, advertising, website... and I'm sooo happy I can access all this from my mobile phone too!

Awesome.

On our 1998 real estate website design I remember picking google for the site and web search engine and eyebrows being raised. Altavista was one of the big boys, and many other choices instead of this up and coming google.

Donna & Larry - do you mean creating a video like this or posting this video on your Blog?  Either way, I think it's a great idea. If you can create a video story book like this about anything, that's awesome. If you're referring to sharing this video or reblogging this post, that's powerful too.  Remember that your readers are different than other members readers and this might be something they'd love to see you share. :-)

Brad -- this was a very fun video to watch about Google from its infancy to now ... like everyone else, I just can't wait for their next big thing.

P.S.  When I worked at Stanford from 2003 to 2006, we could hardly keep good staff there -- they kept getting recruited by Google and then would come back and tell us how great it was to work there -- that you can bring your dog to work, subsidized lunches in the company cafeteria, free coffee all day long, and you can decorate your cubicle however you like.  They're sure doing a lot of things right!

Brad,

I still am loyal to Google.  I have  heard some of my clients that are leaning towards Bing but the results are still the best from Google for any search I do.
