Dave Yonkers (CAPT USN, Ret)

Alaska

Astoria, Oregon

"You can take the sailor off the seas, but you can't get the sea out of his blood."  Dave, a twenty-seven year navy veteran, is still passionate about the water even though he has been retired from the navy for a number of years.  Hence, most of our vacations are cruises or locations along the east or west coast.

Our family room has many 'sea treasures' from Dave's career and now our 'water-oriented' vacations, most recently Alaska.

"Quiet Captain Sleeping" placque was given to Dave by his sister to put under the photo of him taken while looking through an instrument on the ship, at least that's his explanation.

My husband also loves the water.  Never a sea captain, but the son of a Navy man and it's just in his blood.

Mary - My father is a retired Navy captain. A couple years ago (at my mother's urging) they went on a cruise to Alaska. I asked him when he returned how he liked the cruise. He replied " It was nice but a little weird, It was the first time I was ever on a ship this size that I wasn't responsible for making sure it got to it's destination"

Claude--Interesting comment from your father. Mine has always been so interested in the mechanics of every ship.  He was so excited when we won tour of the bridge on the Alaska cruise.  Funny how those ole captain are so similar.  Thanks for visiting here today.

Hey Diane,

Isn't he wonderful?  I just noticed that his stance is the same in all the pictures except the one where he is reclining under that instrument.

Good luck with the applesauce.  Husbo will love it, too.

Carra--Thanks for visiting here this afternoon.  For awhile most of my posts were about the trip, but these just needed special comments to tell the story.  Bye.  Mary
