Fall color in the Great Smoky Mountains National ParkThe flame upon the candlewick
On draughts aflutter pirouette
And waltz and reel to tempo quick
Then lay in wait for Winter’s breath.

                        R Weisser Oct. 2009

As another Autumn foliage season comes to a close, I begin to look back to all of the falls of my past with fond remembrance. It’s always been my favorite season.

Full of color, and football, and the smell of leaves and the tastes of apples and pumpkins! It’s the last hurrah of temperate weather before winter sets it, a time of warm days and cool, crisp evenings. A most pleasant time of year for both dreaming and reflection!

Each fall is different with it's own personality, and presents it's own special touches. As for me, I am going to observe, and taste and savor each offering of the season.

And enjoying every moment of it!

Richard, you graced us with another poem, how wonderful. And the photos are great too. I love fall myself, for many of the same reasons, less the sports I admit. I am waiting for more photos!

Beautiful photos. And I too love fall, even though Florida doesn't really show much difference. But it offers relief from the summer heat. And we can all be thankful for that!

You know I've always used fall for reflecting and remembering and spring time for moving forward and looking ahead.  I really never understood why, it's just where my heart goes that time of year.  Your photos are beautiful as always and so are your words.

A couple of beautiful pictures there.  I've lived in So Cal for over 40 years now and consider it home... wouldn't trade our weather for anywhere else in the world.  However, those changing tree colors alway remind me of my youth in New York.  Thanks for that...

Fabulous photos. From time to time, I miss the fall colors when I lived in the northeast. The colors were almost like neon -- unreal.

Thanks for sharing your photos. Truly beautiful.

I've enjoyed this fall season too.  The weather has been good with enough rain so I haven't needed to water.

It's now drawing to a close.  This Saturday, all of my beautiful shrubs and ornamental grasses will be cut back to rest until spring.

Then, a new season and some beautiful blossoms.

In the mean time, I'll be trying to "force" some tulips because I just can't wait.

HI Richard,

What lovely prose and sentiment. Your pictures are always so clear and the colors so vibrant. I always loved the fall in upstate N.Y. We use to pick the cat tails and bittersweet growing along the highways to make arrangements. Thank you for reminding me of days of past. In Texs there is football but not the color change only color orange!

I enjoy the rides along a color filled back road at a slower than normal speed just to enjoy the change and taking a little time to reflect.
