Some readers might remember that I play the piano in a chamber music group here in San Diego, so I'm always excited when classical music gets a nod on television, in the movies, or even on YouTube.
My good Canadian friends, Al and Peggy Cunningham, recently sent me a YouTube link that has a lot to do not only with piano but the psychology of what people do and why they do it.
Check it out:
I believe that making it fun to hunt for, buy, or sell a home relieves the stress of everyone involved -- Realtors, home inspectors, mortgage lenders, etc.
As an example, I love having open houses, and people who come to my open house get an Open House Survivor Kit full of goodies, including a San Diego neighborhoods word search game that both adults and children can play.
If you're not having fun, and if it's obvious that your Clients are not having fun, do something fun with them, even if just for a few minutes. Take a short break from those intense negotiations and do something unexpected and fun.
Who knows? By making things fun, you just might alter some otherwise interesting behaviors from others involved in the transaction.

Hi Jim~ I have to admit, it is so much better when you are having fun. It takes a conscious effort to make it fun. I like your idea of a Open House Survivor Kit that you hand out!
I love it! Very funny and cool video. I also like your idea about the open house survivor kits you give out. Do you make the word search or have a company that does?
Jim, I definitely have fun with my buyers! We stop at Starbuck's, and the last couple and I had a 'law' that if the red light was on when we passed Krispy Kreme, we HAD to stop! They closed on their house but I emailed them a photo of the Krispy Kreme in Gainesville last weekend when we were there - and they knew immediately what it was about. If you're having fun, it makes the negotiations much easier - everyone's relaxed. Great reminder :)
Jim. Having fun cuts the tension of tedious transactions and can help lighten the mood during stressful moments. Laugh and if that fails, laugh some more! Great video!
Fun video! I couldn't agree more. If you make things fun for people they'll have nothing but wonderful things to say about their experiences. And allowing the fun to help "alter some otherwise interesting behaviors from others involved in the transaction" is always a great idea! Sometimes I think we get caught up in all the serious negotiation and business. We should really remember to have some fun along the way. Thanks for the reminder.
Jim, You are so right! If I didn't have a sense of humor, I would be out of business by now. We certainly need to be professional and knowledgable but there's no reason we can't be that AND have fun doing it. Good point.
Jim, I love open houses as well. I love the idea of an open house packet. I always give away a treat of some sort for taking the time to stop by (and sign in) I would love to hear what others do to make open houses fun.
Hey, Vickie - Isn't it funny that kids can have fun doing just about anything but adults have to make a conscious effort to have fun?
Hey, Kathleen - My marketing guru makes the word search games using Excel, but Google "word search games" and you'll find a lot of interesting choices. Best of all, most of them are FREE!
Hey, Sharon - Love your game, but I'd have to pick something besides Krispy Kreme. They are not my favorite, and I think the two that opened here in the early 2000s are now closed anyway. We're all kids at heart, but sometimes we have problems letting our kid out of the house.
Hey, Anna - There are a few members here at ActiveRain that I consider old fuddy duddies, but they are very few, fortunately. Hopefully they can learn from the rest of us that it is okay to have fun while we work.
Hey, Janna - It sounds like you just did!
Hey, Wanda - (Good) music, humor, and Zoey the Cool Cat seem to take the stress out of my life each day.
Hey, Joan - I'm currently trying to make my way around Facebook, but I get so many emails from people that I don't know that I get discouraged each time I go over there since I'm not even set up yet, and I sure don't want millions, thousands, or even hundreds of friends. Just a select few.
Hey, Melinda - I'm sure all of us have, on occasion, wanted to make fun of a Client, of someone else, of course.
Hey, Terry - I wonder if America is paying attention.
Hey, Carra - What would life be without fun, love, and our fine, furry, four-legged friends? LOL
Hey, Sharon - I do, too, as long as it's not a controversial personality. LOL
Hey, Patricia - "Make it fun and they will come." I like that. Thanks again for the shout-out in your blog today.
Hey, Rita - See my comment above to Kathleen.
Hey, Theodora - I hope I am. I usually don't have to make an effort to have fun, but with some Clients....
Hey, Andrea - Well, maybe not in all circumstances. It depends on the type of fun, where, when, and with whom. LOL
Hey, Susan - Thanks for your kind words, and for stopping by.
Hey, Claudette - I make a lot of agents in my office and company happy, too, because they don't like doing Open Houses.
Hey, Claude - Glad you liked it, and thanks for stopping by. I'll be over to visit you soon.
Hey, Marian - The other side agents that I have enjoyed working with the most are those who seem to be having fun helping their Clients. Some of these agents get so bent out of shape just by getting a phone call asking a question.
Hey, Kristi - Maybe we should start an Open House Group here at ActiveRain.
Jim, I would be abusing those steps! How fun to have kids with you and run up and down making music! It could end up being a problem for those that are really just trying to get up or down the steps. Very fun idea on the word seek for Open Houses and such. Thanks for sharing!
I would take those stairs - twice or maybe even three times and bounce around on them, too. What fun! I hadn't seen this so a big thank you to you and to Pat's weekly blog roundup, I got to see it. yea!
