Trouble with Roofs

This year, in my little part of the Annapolis Valley, roofing is a major concern. In the subdivision in which I live, for instance, most of the homes are typically under 15 years of age. Yet I've noticed the asphalt shingles on many of these homes are in need of replacement, or are being replaced. One has to wonder if this is because tarpaper was not used in the initial installation. Or perhaps it's due to inadequate ventilation? Or both? Or - bite your tongue - maybe they just used cheap shingles. But on all the houses? This seems unrealistic.

It appears as if the venting issue is being rectified on the homes that are having their roofing shingles replaced this season, however tarpapering the entire roof still seems to be considered a luxury.

Hmmm. Point to ponder.

Anyway, heads up...Anyone considering listing a home in this neck of the woods anytime soon, and in this age group of home, can expect a home inspector to pay particular attention to the roof. And, while there are quite a few highly competent roofing companies in the local area, their schedules are locked solid for the whole building season.
