Red White & Boom - Columbus

fireworks in Columbus Ohio Red, White & Boom is on the 3rd of July.

According to Wikipedia's Red White & Boom entry:

"Red, White & Boom is the name of a number of annual fireworks shows in the United States, held on or near July 4 to celebration the nation's Independence Day. The title is a pun on "red, white, and blue," the colors of the American flag.

The largest is in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Attendance typically averages 500,000 people but has been as high as 750,000. Red, White & Boom was started in 1981 by WNCI and WCMH-TV and is paid for by corporate sponsors. A few hundred of the attendees begin gathering over 24 hours before the fireworks, and Bicentenial Park is typically full of people with tents by mid-morning the day of the fireworks. Entertainment typically starts at 11 a.m. or noon there. Veterans Memorial also has people gathering early as that is the offical spot for RV's."

This is the 27th annual Red White and Boom in Columbus.

I go most years but not early... I am not one of those people who camps out all day.

The parade is at 6:00 - schedule, directions, parking entertainment and more is available on Channel 4's Red White & Boom site.

Washington DC is the location for the National 4th Celebration and the firewords and show offered to visitors is a class act. Fortunately, there are many locations in the area where the firewords can be seen without having to brave the traffic or Metro to get to the Mall.

Whatever one has to do or whereever one can do to see this celebration, it's worthwhile. Many towns and cities around the area sponsor their own fireworks show.

Red, White and Boom. Great title.

You forgot to mention that those of us don't brave the traffic and crowds can watch in simulcast in the comfort of our homes. Not the same as hearing the music and fireworks together, but better than not seeing it at all.

We get a GREAT view of the fireworks on the LV strip from our front yard. We turn on the TV loud (our neighbors love us :) and then sit in chairs on the front lawn and watch it. We get a first hand view without the crowds, and with the commentaries from the TV.

I would never watch Red, White & Boom on TV so yes I did forget that it is televised. There are lots of spots where you don't have to go downtown but still can see Red White & Boom. I like the people watching. We bring chairs and people watch in one of the parks along the river, then when the fireworks start we fold up our chairs and go stand on Front Street and look up and go "oooooh.... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Great story, Maureen. I always enjoy fireworks. Red, White and Boom sounds like a real blast. :-)

It's big. I never remember to bring a radio, there is patriotic music played aling with the fireworks, but you can hear it from all the radios around you. Thanks for the comment Stefan

Where are some places that aren't exactly downtown and crowded , but still have a good view? I'm new to the area but won't be done with work to get downtown, so I'm not to going to stress over it. Thanks! Happy 4th!

We don't go down until 7:00 7:30 , sometimes 8:00, Greg and we sit along the river in the crowd... good people watching... but it is crowded. Then when the fireworks start we'd go back. As everyone else is pressing forward we head east onto the street. We'd stand or sit on Front Street... great view.

We are talking about going to North Bank Park this year to get pictures with the skyline in it. Blogging has changed me...changed my priorities. I want photos with fireworks AND buildings now! Welcome to Columbus.
