JIM CRAWFORD posted a timely article this a.m. about alleged collusion and favortism involved with many government bail-out / hand-outs.

Who Says it's Difficult to Get Bailouts of Government Aid?

Who says it's difficult to get government aid?  Nonsense!  I just read a breaking news story about a house committee investigating California congresswomen Laura Richardson and Maxine Waters .  It seems as though Congresswoman Richardson lost her home in Sacramento which was sold in foreclosure and then Washington Mutual - who then foreclosed on the property... gave it back to her.   The committee is going to examine if she received preferential treatment!  EXCUSE ME???  Question her?? Why not arrest her?  . . . . Read More. . . . .

Go to the Article and give this and the links a good read.  It's well worth the time.  Of course, I've just about given up for any justice at HUD.  No doubt Franklin Raines will survive.  If he survived this far considering he falsified the Fannie Mae financials to inflate his own bonue, there's little hope for justice following these investigations.  Congress gave him cover by exempting FAnnie Mae from Sarbanes Oxley.  Don't forget we now have a Sec. of the Theasury that practiced tax evasion and not only got away with it, but got the job to lead the IRS.  And the beat goes on.

Lenn - Almost, if not all career politicians need to be investigated. They frequently don't even get the proverbial slap on the wrist; and the only way to help solve the problem is to institute term limits, something the career politicians certainly won't support.

Thanks for sharing another interesting article. I am sure there will be open investigations from the top down. Someone is making a lot of money.

I will go read the article and thanks for posting it.  I guess nothing should surprise us with our lawmakers!

This sort of things has existed for decades amongst politicians and lawmakers. It's part of the corporate world as well.  I'm glad to see the publicity but will it make a difference or will there simply be coverup of some sort?

John.  Indeed.  Corruption in Congress has reached a new level.  Don't you love it when they investigate themselves and find themselves to be pure.

Harry.  I once heard a former Congressman admit that the only way a person in Congress could get rich while in office was to cheat.  I believe every word.  He did not get rich.  Joe Scarborough said that.

Terri.  Indeed.  That was an understatement.

Jeff.  I believe that it's reached a new level with institutional corruption rampant.  We MUST vote the incumbent crooks out and elect some new crooks.  Maybe it will slow them down.

Lenn - don't you, Fannie and Freddie flourished under the outstanding leadership of Franklin Raines (Maxine Waters). Thanks for posting the link. I just hope none of this takes as longs as it did for Congressman Jefferson who was caught using the Coast Guard to help him collect his frozen dough.

Mike.  That one was so funny, I laughed everytime his name was mentioned.

Justice is fairly swift for a poor slob who is caught by the IRS.  He pays first then can fight if he has the resources,  Otherwise, they take everything he has.

A Congressperson can take tax deductions or evade taxes in the $Millions and it may take 5 years or NEVER for an accounting and then a slap on the wrist.  Or, bribery is simply a "fringe benefit" for Congresspersons.

We're in a sad state.

It is really amazing what they are doing in Congress and getting away with.  It takes even more time and expense to investigate, and right the wrongs.  Remember Congressman Jefferson, and his $90,000 in the freezer during Katrina?  He was finally convicted in August 2009 some 5 years after Hurricane Katrina. "Federal jurors found the Louisiana Democrat guilty of using his congressional office as a criminal enterprise to enrich himself, soliciting and accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes...."  So now we have congressperson one whose home was foreclosed on for over 500K, sold on foreclosure for over 300K and then taken back by the bank...and settled with the purchaser out of court.  The nest deal is over 12 Million for M. Waters.  There deeds make the deeds of Congressman Jefferson pale in comparison.

BTW....Former congressman Jefferson is supposed to be sentenced today for those crimes he was convicted of and Jefferson, now 62, faces up to 150 years in prison when he is sentenced.  One can only hope...justice for wrongdoers is really served.

but there is a what??   where is the rest of your last thought Lenn.  You left me hanging.

I did go and read the article and comment on Jim's post.  Frankly it's just an outrage.  Makes my head spin round and round to see the "connected" keep getting away with such crimes while they are constantly point out how wrong what everyone else does.

I've got to agree, some one without connections did any of these things, punishment would be fast and far more punitive!
