My father (Skip) use to like to hunt. As a little kid and even as a young adult I really didn't understand the appeal. Skip use to bring things home and butcher them in the garage. We would end up with a freezer full of meat wrapped in white paper with hand written labels identifying the contents. What I learned later was that it wasn't the trophy Skip was after, it was the day. He loved getting up early, taking a travel trailer out to some place off the beaten path and taking a walk. The descriptions of how his weekend went were almost poetic. Seeing his breath in the cool morning air, the sunrise, the deep grass or the steep hill he climbed. It was the whole experience, the journey not the destination that mattered.

Picture of Hatchet Ranch, Colorado June 2007 We could see approx 120 miles today. This was taken from the house the buyers are interested in.

For me selling real estate is much the same way. It's the discovery of a new type of house, a new neighborhood and the buyers or sellers I'm working with. I try not to talk to much, let the people I'm with talk to me. If you listen, you can hear many unspoken things. It the experience, the senses that you find interesting when you walk onto a property. It's the give and take, it's the journey I find appealing. OK the destination is a very nice perk.

Today I took out some people who found me in the Rain. They drove for days, hauled a trailer and hunted for places to stay every night. Together we went out on the hunt. They had a list of houses they wanted to see found on the internet. But what we discovered for them was a new journey as well as a destination. A new way of life and the joy of finding something new, the life yet to come.

This was also part of our journey today. This house had approx 20 trophies on the walls.

Thanks for a great day Penny, Marshall and Bob!

That antelope on the left is, by far, one of the most attractive antelope I've ever seen.

Hey Dena, sounds like you had an intersting day. My dad used to hunt occasionally. I'm so glad that he didn't bring home his Trophies. :)  I like the antelope too.  Congrats on your Rain lead!

Chris, I agree! And I'm gratefull they didn't have name tags.

Stephanie, thank you

Steve, do you know Hatchet Ranch? Just 18 miles south of Pueblo. All properties are 35 acres or better. This one is the furtherest out and probably the nicest lot on the Ranch.

This little guy was in the garage and I couldn't get the ones in the bathrooms without getting my own reflection.

Dena- It doesn't matter where you come from, Colorado is a beautiful destination. I'm glad it was a great day and they are lucky to have you helping them find the right house. I haven't heard of Hatchet Ranch before, but it definitely looks like an amazing place to live.

Dena, I do not know of Hatchet Ranch specifically, it has been a long time since I have been down by you.  I do however know how beautiful that entire area is though and that picture is a good reminder.

I do have a friend that is an avid hunter,  His basement looks a lot like your photo above.  I don't think he has a bear though.

Dena, sounds like both you and your Buyers had a special day.  I can't imagine looking out and being able to see for 120 miles.

That must be where my ex-client moved!  I once had a house listed that was owned by a big game hunter and he must have had at least 60 trophies on the walls and everywhere.  Perhaps he moved to the Hatchet Ranch...an apt place for him to move!  I couldn't get his house sold as everyone called it the dead animal house.  He refused to pack them up and put them away.  About 3 Realtors later it sold, after everything was removed.

Out where you were today, the culture is a little different, but here the sheer numbers of them overwhelmed everyone.  I have a couple of deer on the walls in my house, but I didn't kill them; I bought them already stuffed.  I would still put them away if I were to list my house.  We even have people get upset over antler chandeliers until I explain that they are shed naturally and it is not necessary to kill the animal to collect the antlers.

It looks like you had a fun day today!

George hold onto your hat / Joanne I actually did hear a story about the owner, he did live up the hill.

We did have a busy day and productive. I intentionally didn't post a picture of the house that my buyers made an offer on. But I'll tell you about it : 2500+ ft on the main floor - 1400+ in the basement - 4 car garage with an apartment over  - bathroom in the well appointed workshop - 64 acres - awesome views - built 2000 yr. Looks like a  small tasteful castle on top of a hill. Listed $365,000  : )

Joanne, I don't know. The agent just said he was a world traveler and moved to Hatchet from your area. And he had trophies everywhere including the bathroom.
