The "Gem" of the Gulf Coast

pierSince the 1960s there has always been a fishing pier located in Gulf State Park. In 2004, Hurricane Ivan decided he had other plans for the pier by destroying its structure. The storm's heavy rain and strong winds wrecked the pier until there was nothing left.

Maybe it's the sound of the waves against the shore, or perhaps it's the white sand and sparkling emerald water that makes you think of Gulf Shores. But now there is another reason to think of Gulf Shores.  Gulf Shores is the new home to the longest fishing and sightseeing pier on the Gulf of Mexico.

The new pier is not only the largest, but is considered the best and most modern pier that has ever been built. Without a doubt, the newly built pier is the ‘'gem'' of the entire gulf coast.

The $16 million pier is 1,520 feet long, which is nearly twice the length of the old pier. The old pier ended in water about 12 feet deep. The new pier ends in water about 26 feet deep.

A ribbon cutting ceremony took place on July 23, 2009 to make it official. The longest fishing and sightseeing pier on the Gulf of Mexico is now open for business.

The daily rate is $8.00 for adults and children age 12 and over, while children age 11 and under are free when accompanied by a paying adult. You can pay $40.00 for a weekly pass or $80.00 for a monthly pass, $160.00 for a semi-annual pass, and $320.00 for an annual pass. Sightseers will pay $3.00 per day.
