Trick or Treat!

This Halloween brings back all the memories of the fun we had when we were kids.  This year it might bring more than costumed goblins to your doorstep!Halloween Trick or Treat...Really? www.flexitrealty.com

The H1N1 Virus is a real threat to children and those with immune system problems.  Myself included.  I have a left over problem from Vietnam.  I had malaria...which by the way is not on the government list as a treated issue for Vets.

To make a long story short my liver was damaged because I was over medicated to get me back in the field and fighting.  I was in a 20 man recon unit.  Anytime we were short a unit went out without the normal firepower.  That be what it may....my liver function dropped 30% from last year to this year.

H1N1 a real problem for someThis means handing out candy could expose me to the H1N1 Virus.  My situation isn't isolated, anyone with an immunity issue should consult their doctor to know the dangers.  For Example, I have avoided my granddaughter's school this year.  I have not gone to see her with all the other kids at gymnastics practice, something I would love to do.

I don't mingle in large crowds.  Caution is the word for me.  I could be in serious trouble if I caught the virus.  I am not allowed to take the vaccination either.  I did get a flu shot that was recommended by my physician.  Thousands of people like you and me might think twice this year to opening our doors to faces smiling with anticipation.

I see the media warning about wearing rubber gloves, using hand sanitizers, masks and various other precautions for the kids and the parents to reduce the possibility of spreading the virus.

So is the Halloween a Trick or a Treat?  Is seeing all the kids and the fun you can have with them being wide eyed when you hand them a treat worth the risk?

Hi Gary,  I am also trying to avoid people.  Yesterday I had to go to the bookstore and wore gloves while I was handling books.

I remember when the risk was some bully taking your candy or worrying about the potential for blades in an apple...Times do change and the risks seem much more serious now!

Gary, we haven't been to the movies at all this year, I tend to stay away from crowds and do keep my hand sanitizer with me. I've even made up 'trick or treat' bags with a sheet with FLU/COLD symptoms, tissues, hand sanitizer and candy to give to my clients. You can't be too careful.

Great post, Gary.

Illness is at its peak right now in our town, and it is going to have a big impact on tonight's activities.  I know lots and lots of kids that are staying home (One of my three kids is sick and is going to miss out) and I'm sure there are lots of people on the giving end who have opted out as well.

Gary--You have to take steps to protect yourself. We are not sick here and get few trick-or-treaters. I am glad that my kids are out of the T-or-T age as I wouldn't want to pick up any sneezed on candy from someone with a virus either.

Hi Gary, I remember when those were the days when a sicko's caused us to look at tampered candy and toss homemade items because of poison issues.  We just had a 33 year pass away in a local hospital.  They said he was in great health.  Makes you think cautiously.  Thanks for the comments Gary.

Hi Debbie, we have not ventured to the movies either.  We get a bit concerned standing in lines at stores with people coughing and sneezing.  Thanks for the comments Debbie.

Hi Meagan, many of our friends have decided to be very careful and not participate if they have someone with an immune problem.  Hope your child gets well soon.  Thanks for the comments Meagan.

Hi Ed, we do a lot of things for other people than those in our own country first.  Mostly for political reasons.  Thanks for the comments Ed.
