When you come to San Diego in a couple of weeks for the 2009 NAR Convention, put Cabrillo National Monument on your schedule of things to do.
It doesn't matter whether the day is sunny and clear, cloudy and raining, or just some good ol' Los Angeles haze, the views of North Island Navy Base, downtown San Diego, the Silver Strand, the Hotel del Coronado, and Tijuana are unmatched from anywhere else in the area.
Yesterday was, perhaps, the most beautiful day at Cabrillo that I've ever seen in the 31 years I've lived here, so I got some great pictures to share with you. If you slide show here doesn't work on your computer, simply click on "View All Images" to watch it at slide.com.
Most of my blog posts in November before the Convention will be about San Diego: restaurants, tourist traps, etc., and I'll post everything to the 2009 NAR Convention San Diego Group, so check in there regularly.

It seems that in order to live and work in San Diego, you are required to post cute kitty pictures on the blog post. I love ones on Russel's posts and this kitty looks very happy too.
This for sure is a must see when coming to San Diego. We had wedding pictures taken up here and they turned out so beautiful! There is a reason this is considered America's Finest City! Thanks for sharing this! We are some of the lucky ones! I must say it has been awfully COLD here at night though! 49-52 is WAY too cold for Sunny San Diego! (We are spoiled)
Hi Jim. I wanted to go but having just returned from a mainland trip and with the CRS Sellabration mainland trip next year, I decided I would have to sit this one out. I look forward to tons of posts about it on here. Enjoy!
Jim, You have a beautiful city. I have always enjoyed visiting there in the summer. It is so cool and breezy compared to the heat and humidity of an Indiana summer. It that the Midway that they have docked over in the downtown area?
Jim, You made my day. The Hotel Del is one of my fondest memories....I have been fortunate enough to stay there 3 times and loved every single second. And it's haunted--but I hear if you'd like the particular room you'd have to book a year in advance.
And btw, congratulations on being the Member of the Day!
Hey, Karen - Russel's kitty and mine are one and the same, Zoey the Cool Cat. She is a rescue kitty, adopted from the El Cajon Animal Shelter in September 2007. She's been a joy to have around.
Hey, Stephanie - I'm even more spoiled. If it gets blow 70°F, I have to put my jacket on. I think I'm naturally cold, though, because I have a t-shirt on under my shirt regardless of how hot the thermometer says it is. I've noticed a lot of people in San Diego don't wear t-shirts unless they just dispense with the outer shirt to begin with. LOL
Hey, Richard - We'll miss you, but I know you'll be with us in spirit.
Hey, Ed - Every time I go out to Cabrillo, I think, "Why am I going all the way out to Cabrillo?" Then, when I get there, I am able to answer my own question with no help from anyone other than Mother and Father Nature.
Hey, Bruce - Yes, that is the Midway. She's been a museum for three years now, I think. Caused a big brouhaha when they were trying to get her - too big for downtown, no one wants to visit an old ship, etc. She looks wonderful downtown and visitor projections have been totally crushed each year.
Hey, Carole - I like the Hotel Del outside, but I'm not a big fan of its insides. I think it's just too dark inside.
Hey, Susan - You know you can come on down in just a few days for the NAR Convention!
Looks like a must see for sure! I won't be able to make it this year, but I'll have to put it on my list for the next time I'm in San Diego. Thanks for sharing the great pictures!
