The practice of "deadheading" or removing spent flowers is necessary in some cases in order for the plant to produce an abundance of blooms. Deadheading makes the plants put more energy into making more blooms or a stronger plant instead of making seed.

WATERING AND PESTICIDES

Water your plants several hours before applying pesticides, especially during dry weather. Plants that have not been watered are possibly drought-stressed and have less water in their plant tissues. The chemicals that enter the leaves will consequently be more concentrated and may burn the leaves.

AMARYLLIS CARE

Hopefully the cold weather will be over soon. As soon as the danger of frost is over, amaryllis that was forced into bloom can be placed outdoors for the summer. The potted bulb should be placed in a shaded location and fertilized with 1 teaspoon of 5-10-10. Bring it back indoors before frost, and let the soil dry completely so the bulb will go into dormancy. After leaving it in a cool, dark place for eight weeks, bring it back into the light and begin watering again, in another eight weeks, your amaryllis should bloom again.

ORGANIC GARDENING

Organic gardening is a gardening technique wherein no artificial fertilizers or pesticides are used for plant propagation. Only natural nutrients are used. There are some natural insecticides available such as Neem Oil and Insecticidal Soap. Also be sure to use alot of compost to build up a healthy soil.
