My first Halloween without my kids.  This year has been a year of many firsts.  The jury is still out on whether or not I'm finding that a good thing.  I  made no 'Bat and Ghoul' Cookies

bat-cookies1I had 2 pumpkins but they weren't carved...........I wore no costumes and had no scary music playing in the background. :-(

I kept reminiscing about the days of old:

(Chris is the cowboy on the left, Sarah the bunny - and Rachel is Barnie.........top right is my three once a ponca time!.......bottom middle is Sarah in her 'fifties' outfit...last Halloween - and My niece and nephew Carmen and Adam!)

I knew I'd my kids wouldn't  be bringing any candy home for me to scrounge some.......so I bought some chocolate Halloween cupcakes with lots of goo on them, and ate 3 of them! (and I don't do that!)                                   ............3!

But the real sweet part was watching the little trick or treat-or's coming to my door - definitely too cool for school!

NEXT year I'm definitely dressing up in character! ;-0

Hi Liz - Happy November 1st and standard time.  Don't forget to turn your clock back tonight.

Looks like a very tasty cupcake. :)

So, you are going to be the wicked witch of the west next year?

Sounds like you had fun though.  We saw really cute costumes this year as well.

Looks like fun for everyone!  We had THREE, count 'em, THREE trick-or-treaters. Probably junior high school age. That was it. Now we'll have to bury the candy.

Liz--I love your pictures of 'old.  Hang in there.  One of these days they will come back to relive those good memories with their children.  That's when the real fun begins.  In meantime buy a cupcake and eat the whole thing. (or two or three)

Howdy Liz-YOU most definitely are feeling the empty nest syndrome that all parents feel. It is a natural part of life. YOU are not the wicked witch though more like a wonderful queen of Chilliwack who spreads love and happiness everywhere you go. Glad you had some tricker treaters. Great pics. <SMILE>

It just is not the same when kids were small and you walked around with them. I bought a bag of candy for my kid then wound up eating half of it. Time just has a way of really moving.

Hi Liz, I love your old photos and know how you feel. So many Halloweens filled with happy memories, and then poof - they're gone. Now, we have grandchildren to bring back the excitement of the holiday.  Your cupcakes sound good, by the way.

Hi Liz - loved the photos - happy to hear you  indulged in 3 choclate cupcakes and the dressup for next year should be Linda, the good witch of the east ...not that wicked witch of the west!

Dear Ms Chilliwack girl,

So far, this season, I am setting out on the Canucks bench. Could you please put in a good word for me with the coach so I can get more ice time, as I did last season.

Nutsy

Ahhhh memories .... be happy that yours are all good.  Keep them in a little corner of your heart and leave room for new ones - with the kids all gone.  It's time for you to start a new chapter.
I sort of liked not running out to find a costume and watching a tantrum take place because we can't find the right one. I enjoyed not being out in the freezing cold, going from door to door, wondering how much candy I would have to throw out/hide, at the end of the night, and if my secret stash would be enough.  I liked that he baked a chocolate cake with butterscotch chips for halloween this time and gave ME a treat. :)

Awww....love all these pics and sentiments, Liz...I know the feeling of trick-or-treating down Memory Lane, missing the wonderful fun of little kids closeby (that's why I went to the Halloween Dog Parade! :-)  Wonderful story-blog.

Hi Liz... Halloween is one of the things that seems to get lost when you live in a highrise.  No trick-or-treaters!  But the streets were full of adults in costume, so the spirit of the holiday was alive and well!

Liz - I know exactly how you feel.  After my boys grew up Halloween was not the same.  Thank goodness for the annual Halloween parade that is held in our  neighborhood each year.  Over 400 kids come out for the parade and it is so much fun to see the little ones in their costumes, listen to music from Michael Jackson's Thriller and enjoy some apple cider, hot chocolate and doughnuts. :)

Liz, this has been a year of changes for me as well; oldest daughter graduated and moved to Boston, youngest is at college most of the time. I miss those days but still enjoy decorating and seeing the little ones in their costumes. And I can still dress the dog up!

This is the second year I am not allowed to go out with Max while his 13 year old self trick or treats!  I feel your pain.  My older son had a Halloween party at college and I was reduced to being a stalker and looking at the pics on facebook.  Oddly unsettling, to say the least.  Things change and life moves on Liz.  Sad, but true.  xxoo
