Should the tax credit be extended?

By
Real Estate Agent with The Briles Company

Should the credit be extended?  What a loaded question.  Business has been booming in our area, namely because of this tax credit.  But are we 'stealing' buyers from the future to boom our business now?   And is extending this credit only going to extend our 'paying of the piper?'  I guess we won't know until the credit timeline has passed and we are looking at this a year from now.  My hopes are that the economy continues to improve along with my business.

Are we creating what the auto industry did if we extend the credit?  Some years back someone marketing genius at one of the car makers decided the dealerships should offer a rebate to those folks buying their new cars.  That's all it would take to get automotive sales back in line.  Get people buying again.

It sounded like an amazingly ingenious plan at the time.  However the buying public is smarter then you might think.

The auto makers set a precedent and now rebates are nearly offered all the time.  Because without them the buying public sits on the sidelines waiting until a rebate IS offered.

Any government intervention, whether with tax credits or any other incentive, just gives them a foot in the door.  Once there, it's almost impossible to close the door...how far will it go?
