Sand Dunes

Coastal sand dunes are fragile areas along a beach and are vital to the preservation of beaches as they help to limit soil erosion.  The blades of grass keep the sand from getting blown away by the wind.

So when using the beaches what can we do to protect the ecosystem so that future generations can enjoy the scenic beauty?

  •  Avoid walking on the dunes
  • Don't ride your bikes or any vehicles on dunes

I don't think this is too much to ask.

Jennifer - Great picture.  I'm thinking that would be a beautiful header for some advertising for your area!

Jennifer, I would love to be standing somewhere, anywhere, today, looking at those beautiful sand dunes.  Great photo.  We have to protect our coast line here in Louisiana too.

Susan  Thank you.  This shot is from Cape Cod, I live inland in NY with the Hudson River being the most significant body of water.

Hi Joan you gave me a good laugh.  I can really see what you are getting at.

Pat Thank you.

Harry Don't be naughty I will have to report you to the Dunes patrol......lol

Michael it is amazing how something  seemingly  so insignificant can be such a vital part of a protective system.

Hello Jennifer.  Thanks for the picture and the education... did not know about the effect walking or riding on the dunes would have on the ecosystem...

Jennifer those sand dunes are very common at Cape Code.  I don't get to see them in my neck of the woods.

Jennifer--When we visited the Gulf Coast area of Alabama a few year ago there were signs all over the beaches and dunes that look similar to these with those very same recommendations and reminders. And they looked just like that too.

Love the grass coming up thru the sand! I went to the Great Sand Dunes here in Colorado earlier this year - What an incredible sight! The mountains block the sand from carrying on in the wind, and it just piles up. There it is as high as 700+ feet!

Jennifer,

I like the way you took a fairly common shot and turned it into something really special with the framing. :)
