Morris Cove Halloween Parade 2009

Morris Cove Annual Halloween Parade 2009

A time held tradition in Morris Cove is the annual Morris Cove Halloween Parade.  The East Shore Neighborhood Preservation Association (ESNPA) has been running this event for over twenty years.

The ESNPA is a  non-partisan, non political civic organization  which monitors zoning issues and takes part in activities which enhance the quality of life and fosters an increased sense of community among the residents of Morris Cove.

The ESNPA at their summer fundrasiser which is held with the cooperation of Anthony's Ocean View raises the money it needs each year to host events like the Morris Cove Halloween Parade.

ESNPA

The ESNPA purchases the Halloween candy and puts together 475 bags which are given out to the children who take part in the parade.  Doughnuts, apple cider, coffee and hot chocolate is also provided at the end of the parade route for the children and their families.

For a while it looked like the weather was going to threaten the parade last night with some rain but luckily we only had a few sprinkles for a few minutes before it started.

It's a fun-filled night for the children and families of the East Shore neighborhoods of the Annex and Morris Cove.  The parade is held each year on Halloween night at 6:00 pm.   Hundreds of children start gathering at the beginning of the parade route at Parker Place and are broken down into groups from Pre-K to the 6th grade.

At the end of the parade route are three judges on a reviewing stand who award prizes to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners with the most original costumes for each grade. There's even a group for any adults who wish to dress up in costume and particpate in the event.  We even had a few pets dressed up in costume this year too!

As a life long resident of Morris Cove, it's an event I look forward to each year and remember vividly when my now two grown sons would dress up in their costumes and march in the parade.  The originality of the costumes is incredible as you'll see in the video not only from the winners but from all of the children to participated in this year's parade.

Donna.. I love the boy who is dressed up in the Rubic's Cube.  Any idea who the winners were.

This is a great blog for localism in your area.

Val - The costumes were awesome especially the Rubic's Cube.  Unfortunately he wasn't one of the winners.  I had a problem with my Flip and only got the announcements of the winners from the 3rd grade up.  You'll have to watch the video to find out who the winners were. :)

Sally - Over 400 of them can you believe it?  We get a huge turnout for this parade every year.  We hardly see any trick or treaters at our house with so many of them attending the parade.

Donna,
What a great idea!  So much trick or treating is being scaled back and this would be a GREAt alternative.  :-)

Marcia - We have so much fun at this Halloween parade and it's such a wonderful way for everyone in the neighborhood to get together and share in the joy of trick or treating.

Hannah - You can't imagine how much fun it is from the kids right on up to us adults.  They close up almost a 6 block area in the Cove for this parade.  It's a huge success every single year!
