Toula - It had been a place on my Bucket List until May of last year.  It is a hauntingly beautiful place.

Ann - My kids call me, "Have Camera -Will Travel". . .LOL

Teri - If you ever get to that part of the country, it is very worthwhile to visit.

Brenda - I remember those "way back when" days. . .But I think mine are further back than your's:-)

Bill - No, I don't work for the Chamber. . .I just get itchy feet really often:-)

I love this photo Myrl! It's wonderful. I think it's so fortunate that so much history has been preserved. I give anything to spend a couple months back east roaming the countryside!

Hi Mryl, When I was living back east, some of the scenic beauty where some of our earlier history unfolded is amazing and under appreciated by those that have never been there. It is apparent you have been and this would be a wonderful subject for a photo blog. Speaking of which, I really need to call sometime soon.  It conjures up so much in the way of images both real and imagined for me. Loving history, I have seen many pictures and read a bunch, traveled about and still never had a really good handle on the whole subject because  that part of history involves so much of the Eastern portion of the country. What got me started as a really young kid was seeing a Johnnie Tremain movie when it was making a second round comeback at our school. From the visualization of the armies to the way people lived and why they were willing to kill and destroy for what they believed.  There is much to learn of that history but I always find fascination in the subject. I know I have a hero in our family background in one of those battles but the remains were given away when I was little kid. How I wished my family had given the memorabilia collected of my great great grandfather from my grandfather's estate more import back then.

Myrl- My husband and I were fortunate enough to live for a short time in the DC area.  During our time there we visited as many historic sites including all the major Civil War battlefields as we could. Thanks for sharing your pic.

Steve - I made a day trip to Gettysburg.  My "real" goal in the Pennsylvania trip was to spend time with the Amish.  It was beyond what I had imagined - all of it!  I only wish I had spent more time, and need to go back!

Zane and Sara - Gettysburg is a hauntingly beautiful place.  At times its hard to imagine the bloodshed that happened there.

Marney and Ann - I'm glad you liked it!

Debi - As I shuffle around this planet year after year, I appreciate our preservation of history more and more.

William - I need to sort of rework a blog I wrote about my visit with the Amish last year. . .Perhaps I'll do that in the next few days, and blog it over on your PhotoBlogger group.  I have great grandfathers that fought in the Civil War on oposing sides.  I actually have quite a bit of information and pictures surrounding that.  I find it amazing that as a kid I wasn't so interested in history; but now I eat it up:-)

Kathy - I have flown through DC but never stayed or traveled around there. . .I need to make that a destination rather than a port:-)

Richard - I sat on a rock overlooking the fields for quite awhile.  I tried to yesteryear's sounds during battle, above the din of the present silence. . .It was almost to difficult to imagine.

Karen - I've heard that Manassis is indeed beautiful.  I really need to make it back to the eastern states to visit more of these sites.

Hi Myrl,

What a wonderful photo, and you took this? It's so gratifying that we can still see scenes like this across our beautiful country.

I've had the pleasure of seeing this tranquil countryside only once, a couple of years ago,  yet I'm grateful. It was one of those things on my personal life-list, aka bucket list. For me, seeing the battle grounds was like stepping back in a very interesting history.

Sharon W. - I visited the site where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg address. . .It's actually in close proximity to the battlefields.  There is a feeling that abides at Gettysburg, like none other.  Tranquil today - but at a time in the past. . .

Lynda - Yes, I actually took this picture in May of 2008.  My primary destination was to visit the Amish in Lancaster County PA.  But I made a day to travel to Gettysburg as well.

Steve - Being a primarily California gal, this was my first experience with civil war battlefields.  I have since felt compelled to travel back to the East coast, and other destinations to visit more of our history.

The Amish country here is beautiful.  I love the covered barns not to mention the simlple way of life.  Gettysburg is charming to visit and is full of so much history as well.
