Blog writing tips from CopybloggerEnglish was never one of my favorite subjects in school. I've always felt that being gramatically correct was nice, but not absolutely necessary. People communicate just fine in informal, conversational ways -- so why can't we write like that?

Blogging is often referred to as an online conversation. Bloggers are told to find their voice, to speak (write) naturally. So don't worry about whether or not your high school English teacher approves of your latest post; they're probably not your target audience anyway!

Want to have a little fun and learn some tips for better blog writing? Read "7 Bad Writing Habits You Learned In School" by Jonathan Morrow at Copyblogger. You'll find out that "good writing doesn't have to be educated or well supported or even grammatically correct. It does have to be interesting enough that other people want to read it."

John - Good tips. I've found that the more I read and the more I write the easier it becomes.

Hi John. Though English is not my first language I was enrolled in AP English while in high school. To this day it is very challenging to write what I think considering that I do not "think" in English LOL Thanks for the link.  ~ Lana

John thanks for the link.  Loved the advice and so true.  The blogs we find the most interesting break all the rules we learned in English 101.

I have done a lot of business writing.  Blogging is new for me.  Thanks for the tips!  I do find it a little intimidating.

I tend to be to succinct in my blogging.  I get to the point without extra conversation or fancy items.  I've noticed the best posts are a little fancier (for organization) and a little wordier.  I'll work on that.

I loved that article! I have often wondered why my 15 year old has to read "To Kill A Mockingbird" . Schools really should update the reading material, but the best line was "No one but you is an authority on your writing"

I have never written a thing until I started blogging and I have found I am pretty good at it!

Thanks for this great post!

John - This is great!  It's funny my mother-in-law, who happens to have authored two books, said to me last night to just blog like you talk in a conversation!  I will take your advice and give it a try!  Thank you!

Hi John

Thanks for the tips. I have to admit that getting started with blogging is rather intimidating! I read a lot of the Active Rain blogs but sometimes lack the confidence to write any....I will give it a shot this week!

Thanks again,

Nnacy
