Now, my mother made everything from scratch while we were growing up, but i honestly had NO interest in cooking.....  just eating!  My older sister paid attention while i flunked cooking and sewing!  I have no shame, for later on, my skills in the kitchen improved greatly, but some foods were never prepared.

Mary Yonkers of Erie, Pennsylvania inspired me to make applesauce for the FIRST time!  In her post, October 27Th, named, "Home style Cooking With Mary: Applesauce,"  Mary outlined her recipe, complete with pictures!

I was completely enchanted, and asked questions as if a 3 year older would have, which Mary patiently and graciously answered.  She had to be thinking, "Now, c'mon... this is the simplest thing!! Is she serious??"

This is not the only time Mary ignited a spark in me.  In September, she re-blogged a post authored by Michael Thornton, called, (Colored Text Series - How to Put Easily Put Color in Your Posts...)  It was made to sound SO EASY!  I figured i could do it too, and created..... My FIRST Colored Post!!

Back to story.......

Friday, the apples were bought, and today a small batch of applesauce was made!!   I used Stevia instead of Splenda for the sweetener, and sprinkled cinnamon on the top.  Husbo was the first to taste it!

Yum!!  Thank you Mary Yonkers!!!

Hmmm, that sounds really good Diane! I've made applesause in the past after we've been apple picking. I love it with cinnamon, I'm sure your husband didn't mind being the 'taster'!

Debbie:  I am eating some as i write! He doesn't care for it saying it's baby's food... but he did try it out just because i made it!

Diane,

That sounds wonderful! Apples are plentiful here in Washington! Can you pass along that recipe! I don't think I have ever tried making applesauce either!

Have a great week!

Diane--Congrats on your success!  And a BIG THANKS for all the complements in your post.  i love the last line, "Image courtesy of Diane's kitchen.'  Very clever.  If Husbo doesn't care for it, EAT the whole batch yourself.  It freezes very well and is a nice treat in middle of winter.  Mary

GOOD MORNING DIANE!  Nothing like a post about food early in the morning!  I am hungry now!  On a side note - I wish the Colored Post would have been featured - it was hilarious - and had great info too!  So it never occured to me to make homemade applesauce - and that you can freeze it!  Easy and freezy - two things I like and will try! Enjoy your Monday! -- Gab

Diane, That must have been so much FUN!  I used to make all of Cynthia's recipes because they always sounded so easy and good and they were always a hit.  I haven't tried the applesauce but Thanksgiving is coming up and gives me a great time to try it.

Mary:  It's mutual.... all thee way!!

George:  The only difference is.... YOU do not have to be concerned with your waistline... the bigger yours get... the more "mature" you look, but the bigger mine gets, the more FAT i am!!

Jane:  Girl!!  Shoot!  It will take more than boiling apples to qualify ME as a cook!!

Carole:  You know... it WAS fun... and so simple that it's impossible to ruin! I hope you DO make some... and share your other easy recipes!

Sounds like you had a lot of fun experimenting in the kitchen with a new recipe. I like Mary's suggestion to freeze it too - I never thought about doing that. I can just hear your Husbo praising you in the kitchen :)

Carol:  It was fun... was a little concerned about how it would turn out.. but how can one mess up with instructions so simple?  Now that i know what to do.... i'm encouraged to try something else!  Thanks for coming by!

"Dianes Kitchen" looks like it is right out of a TV show.... hehehehehe!! =-)

I agree with those who say you need to get a cooking show going, Diane......

Are you gonna make some cookies for the office sometime in the future??

(hint hint..... hehehehe)

=-)

Diane--With responses like these, we really ought to follow through on our joint venture, Diane & Mary's Kitchen .  My Hubby is a commercial/industrial agent and he should be able to find us the right location.  Husbo & Hubby would probably apply for the position of 'Official Taste Testers' , our ActiveRain friends might think that is favoritism.  Hm-mm.

Alex... keep wishing and hoping hunnie!

Mary:  Girl, listen, don't start!!!  Hold up..... I DO make a mean sweet potato pie though... the only thing is.... Husbo won't want me to give out the secret, and hoards up ALL the pies to himself!!!

Hmmm... wait... he does that will ALL of my cooked meals... he takes them downstairs to his refrigerator and locks it up!!!  I think this has something to do with when he was soooo hungry as a child, and missed out on many meals because he did not make it in time to the pot... (there were 14 children in all)  This is starting to sound like a sad story isn't it?

Let me get back to..... HEY!!!  I'm staring to sound a LOT like YOU!!!  LOL
