Can you blog and email too much? Well, today my computer tried to give me a warning that I may do exactly that. It tried to burn down my house, but luckily for me I was on the computer when the battery light came on and I decided to check what was wrong and this is what I saw.

Burnt Wire

This is the wire that decided to short out and try to catch fire! Remember to turn off your computers when they are not in use or the outcome can be very different.

Todd:

That is a very scary picture.  I'm going to go into my home office and turn off the computer.  Yikes!

I always turn off my computer.  My kids always argue that it's okay to leave it on.  I'm going to show them your picture.  Thanks.

Scary -- we always leave on all the computers -- might want to rethink that I guess.

Howdy there Todd

That sure ain't a good thing to have happen. I always turn my computers off, when I'm done using them. Mighty fine tip you give folks to do.

OMG Todd,

This really could have turned out badly. SO glad you caught this and that you and your family are okay.  Thanks for the VERY important reminder. God bless.

Todd --- I leave my office computer on all the time --- it backs up every night to a server --- I don't recognize that photo as looking like any cord that I have --- pretty scary.

Todd,

That should not happen.  Computer manufacturers spend a lot of time, money, and energy to create products that do NOT catch fire!  You should report this to the manufacturer.  If they have had it happen on similar models they may need to issue a product recall.

Okay, full disclosre: i used to work for a computer manufacturer in Public Affairs.  They would be quick to respond to this photo!

Todd - Its lucky that you caught that when you did. I havent seen anything like that from a computer, so clearly you put yours to work. Glad it worked out okay.

I've had this happen to 2 laptops in the last 2 years. I now use desktops almost exclusively. My wife still has laptops, but we have become very careful with the power connections.

Todd - Yikes! I remember a couple of years ago my husband was at home while I was out. All of a sudden smoke came from my office and my husband immediately noticed it. He went into the room and noticed the computer smoked, he shut it off can away went the smoke. I must admit I'm notorious for leaving the computer on all the time. This just reminded me to be more careful and to turn my PC off when done.
