In case you forgot a few weeks back you helped me decide what granite to use on my new countertops.  In case you missed it I choose CANELLE. So far I have started to remove the drawers, take everything out from underneath the cabinets (just a couple so far). I went to Home Depot and purchased some packing boxes, already have four sitting in my dining room. All myl cabinets are finished and if I do say so for being 50 years old look pretty good. I removed all the hardware, cleaned it and will reuse it.

Today I started to remove the countertrops. OMG  I am already beginning to think maybe I made the wrong decision. I banged, no movement. So I thought well I don't see any screws, it must be really good 50 year old glue. Maybe I'll take the formica off and see  where I need to cut.

Back to the computer to make sure I understood all the directions. Here are some pictures of what I have done so far.

Sample: Canelle    Oak Cabinets

Removed some of the 50 year old formica so I could figure out how to get the countertops off

They say on DYI you can do it. Yes I can! Can you see my new rubber mallet and heavy duty hammer.

Tomorrow I will get the courage to remove the stove top and work on the next section. Anything has to be better then that "old yellow" formica.

They said I have about 21 days before delivery; hope I have all the countertops removed by that time. Looks like Carl is going to have to eat allot of cold cuts for awhile.

Jamie the cabinets were nasty with all that old varnish, yes varnish. They were build with some very nice oak years ago so thought they were well worth putting a little time and effort and savings to "spruce" them up. Thanks for stopping.

You are so brave, Carl!  We had to have our dishwasher replaced last year and of course the counter had to be lifted up and it was no picnic!

    Howdy there Ceil and Carl

Seen that they are 50 years old, depending on the cabinet maker that made them. Dovetail and dials may have been used to hold them together.

Ceil - your new Canelle granite countertops, sure are going to look good with your Oak cabinets.

Looks like you've got some work ahead of you yet... I really wanted to take a sledge hammer to our brick, but didn't... I'm regretting that.  Have fun knocking it all out!

Carl, Just had some new one's installed myself. Heck, I just paid someone to do it. Far easier. I am ambidextrous.  I can screw a job up with either hand ☺☺☺

    Thanks all for stopping.

I'm the do-it-yourself person in our house. Me...Ceil

Carl does the outside and I do the inside.  That  is how we have managed to be together for almost 50 years. My girlfriend and I are going to take the stove top out today, maybe.

You're making me hungry for a good renovation project again. Alas, my old body is just to, well, old. Since Carl is having cold cuts, I'll leave him some pie since I'm sure you don't have time to bake one for him.

Pumpkin pie and whipped cream for Carl

Can't wait to see the final product because I think I have something that will make it look super extraordinary.

I've always heard that kitchen renovation projects are the worse and I can believe it, you don't realize how much time you spend in the kitchen.

Good for you, Ceil! I know your kitchen is going to look great when you're done. Maybe it's time for Carl to take a cooking course, if he's getting tired of cold cuts.

    Cheers,

    Robin

Robin: At this point we appreciate Subway. I had no idea what to expect but have no choice but to keep going. We plan on eating Thanksgiving out this year. I had no idea how much Tupperware I had hidden in my lower cabinets, it's like Christmas.
