Over the last 2-3 weeks I have been working on a new outside blog and about 10 days ago bought a custom domain name to permanently point to it. It took me over a week to figure out the Cnames and Anames.

Now that I finally finished the DNS work I need to get the website picked up by Google.

I have several links to it from my other sitesand did submit it to google and several blog directories.

What else would you recommend that I do? I picked the domain name with the plan to get on the first pageof google with that search term. I appreciate any and all advice. Here's the link to my site.

Update: 11/12/09

I came out of Google's "sandbox" after about two weeks and have been climbing up the rankings everyday that I post fresh information on it. It just hit page one for search term destin pelican beach resort. I did submit it to several blog directories and added links to it from activerain posts and also from my websites.

Your new blog is most likely in the so-called Google Sandbox, where it will probably stay for a few months no matter what you do. To get out sooner rather than later, just keep posting consistently, developing those incoming links and using your primary keywords and winning keyword phrases.  When it comes out, you'll know it.  Mine didn't exist in google results for about 4 months, but then it was on page 1 for all my search terms and has stayed there for over 2 years  Yours will, too.

Thanks margaret and Diane for commenting. I wonder if paying to get in good directories like Real would help?

Mike, You might think about taking Katarina's next class on search engine optimization.  I have been working on my site for years now so knew much of what she taught but I did pick up a few things that will help.  If you are just starting on this journey this would be extremely helpful.

Mike you have the best advise in previous posts.  Do it yourself by spending an hour per day.  As you go along you'll learn about google analytics and how to analyze your website visitors, the keywords they used, how long they are staying on your site, etc.  You'll tweak certain things to capture more visitors and to keep them on your website longer.  Once you've done this for 4 to 6 months or so, you've gathered enough knowledge to have a part timer continue what you started, allowing you the time necessary to focus on all of the leads that you will be generating.
