For whatever reason, many local cities have become sign nazi's when it comes to A-boards for open house notifications. Mind you, we usually have 4-5 signs out for a 3 hour period of time...and those signs are on street corners directing traffic to the property we are marketing.

Here in Maple Valley, many local Realtors have left our open houses to find the City has taken one or more of our signs (not cheap I might add). If they are too close to the sidewalk, in the "right of way" (define that on some of these roads please) or as I was told by a City Hall employee once "somewhere that a council member doesn't like", they'd run the risk of being picked up and hauled off.

I think these signs are pretty close to the sidewalk...in fact probably smack in the middle of the right of way area (if anyone really knows where that is)

Funny....there seems to be a different set of rules if you're running for that City council position.

They'll be gone soon.

Hopefully.

This is a pet peeve of mine as well.  They take my signs, during open houses, and they leave their political signs up forever.  Often 10 of the same sign on the same corner!

Yes, the real estate sign police patrol my area too, but seem to turn their heads when it is political signs.  Can anyone say double standard?!

Colleen, You hit a nerve with this one. Our missing signs add up to a pretty penny!

It's like the saying goes, "Do as I say, not as I do." Here in Loudoun County, VA, ANYONE who puts out signs on public streets is subject to fines starting at $100+ a sign (!!) This has not stopped me from putting out open house signs and for sale signs because I feel it is vital to selling listings. I have managed to escape the fine police, but I know it's probably a matter of days before I receive that notification in the mail. It's such a shame too, because the only signs that got excessive and littered the highways were the political signs around election days. I feel that the county went a little extreme in our case, but I understand in a sense where they are coming from.

I think you've hit a nerve.  I've had to pay a "ransom" of $25 on a number of ocassions because my directional signs were either "too plentiful" or "in the wrong spot" according to local police.
