Daylight Savings Time - Someone Forgot To Tell The Dogs!

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Daylight Savings Time

My dog is used to what time I get up in the morning. I am a bit of a night owl, and usually go to bed around midnight. I'm also one of those people that needs, no, REQUIRES , 8 hours of sleep. So, with the time change the clock still says midnight when I go to bed, and still says 8 AM when I get up. But my dog just doesn't get it.  She's waking me up at 7 AM every morning, because HER clock says it's 8 AM. I'm exhausted! LOL!

I was talking with a friend today who told me about a handicapped woman at her church. This lady has a service dog that brings her an empty medicine bottle twice a day at the appointed time to remind her to take her pills. Apparently the timing of her medication is very important. With the advent of Daylight Savings Time, she retrains her dog to bring her the reminder bottle a little earlier each day, until she's back on schedule! And then she does it again in the spring, when the clocks jump forward. I've known that service dogs are incredibly smart, but this is just amazing.

So, the question is, how does she do it? And I wonder if she'll share it with me so I can get my 8 hours back!

Very amusing:)  I do love animals. Mabe the lady will share how she trains her dog to do this, twice a year.   That poor dog. I know it is a bit confused..  thanks for sharing!

Debi, funny story with the dogs, but for all of us even that one hour time difference does take some getting used to.

Debi, it is kind of funny.  My two dogs keep looking at me funny because they expect their food at a certain time - which now is an hour earlier than normal according to the clock!

Steven, aside from losing sleep - that's a big issue with me too!

Ginger- Im getting confused too! Lack of enough sleep does that to me LOL

Gary- you got that right! I don't think we need to do this - Arizona doesn't do it, and as far as I know, they're OK down there!

Toula - It may take weeks!

Silvia - So you feel my pain? LOL

Thanks Robert!

Deb,

Funny. I commented the same thing on someone else's post the other day. My two got up the same time they always do, irrespective of the time change.

Let me know how you make out with the training. I'm afraid that mine have trained me instead.

Debi...

Actually, that's a very interesting question. I wonder how you really do retrain the dog.

that's funny... yes the time changes always mess me up..although, I do enjoy getting an extra hour rather than losing one :)B

Debi - There is something about black and white photography that is so elegant and timeless... Even when time is changing:-)

LOL Debi, that's really funny.  Maybe you should put your dog to bed an hour later ... to see if it will sleep in. :)  Good luck.

Debi, beautiful photo! And yes, if you find out, please let me know. My dogs don't seem to get it either. Come to think of it, neither does my 3.75 year old son! :-D

Rich, You did? Great minds....and all that! If I have any luck, I promise to share!

Richard - I would be very interested to know how she does it. I suspect she's starting with a VERY smart dog.... :)

Konnie - That's what I'd hoped for, but....

Myrl - I couldn't agree more. Until now, I was never really happy with my B&W conversions. But new software is changing that :)

Sylvie - Good luck is right LOL

Marney -I will! I promise! I notice you wrote 'if', not 'when' - don't think much of my odds? Neither do I, LOL

So funny....our dogs too...they get dinner when my son gets home from school which is about 4pm and this week has been very hard for them waiting an extra hour. :(

Tony and Darcy - No. Your dogs don't have the exclusive on that!

Michael - LOL I like that!

Karen - I guess we should feel sorry for them, at least about the dinner part! :)

I love black and white photography. In my opinion, nothing promotes the imagination more than than good 'ol B&W.

Hi Debi, Like every other dog in America, unless they are in Arizona where folks are smart and don't do DST, our beagle, Snoopy, also doesn't comprehend Daylight Savings Time and changing the clocks twice a year.

Thanks Craig - I doo too. Myrl is a big fan too. Something nostalgic about it, isn't there?

Shirley -  Why can't we all be like Arizona? No one likes it, and what's the point anyway? Unless I'm mistaken, and that's happened once or twice, the reasons for it are all outdated.....

Until I read this post, I had never given any thought to the reaction dogs would have on DST.  Very interesting and I would assume frustrating for the dog owners.

Hi Debi, I commented the same thing on another post about this. That dog of mine could care less about the time change. He is very rude about it no less.

That is one amazing photo, love it!

Andrea, too funny! What's up with these mutts? We need doggy clocks or something.... :)

Hi Deb, Thta was a wonderful photo and I love that a dog can be retrained. I say that because my Yorkie trained me. But she was so cute in the morning. I an an early riser and it always seemed too early for her. When I spoke to her , she looked up and then buried her head deep until she way ready. Usually not more than 30 minutes she would get up, come over and stretch in front me and she telepathically said, "OK, I am ready now, let me out"."Oh yeah , Good Morning ". Then it was time to eat and there was no mistake who was in charge. And that wasn't me. Oh, I forgot. God forbit it was raining, cold, windy or otherwise a not perfect day.

William, I thought you couldn't teach an old dog new tricks - but sounds like your Yorkie has you trained very well! We'll have to find out what her method is - LOL

Debi,

I have the same problem.  Sparky is still on the old time... and he likes to bark to get his way.  UGH!

Hi Debi,
