This morning my wife and I were running a little late. Our voting place is 5 miles from our home which is 30 miles from the office. I couldn't locate my voter registration, and told myself since we were late that I would try to come back later and vote. In Texas you can vote with an alternate ID like your driver's license.  So that was the plan....even though it would mean another 60 mile round trip that I would do it anyway.

Now mind you on today's ballot in our county, there were no candidates, only amendments to the Texas Constitution, eleven to be exact. Now ....most folks don't get fired up about amendments when it comes to voting, at least as much as they do about candidates, including yours truly, but I made up my  mind to do it.

So at lunch a jumped in the truck and headed to the polls only to realize I did not have my driver's license with me either. Rats!  That would add an other 10 miles to the trip. That was it I just wouldn't vote.

Then this little voice started saying...." Chicken"   Go vote!

So I drove home got my license went to the polls and voted. It looked like only 58 people had voted at the station halfway through the day . I hope my extra 70 miles was worth  it for constitutional amendments.

Then I thought "What if?"    What if that one vote makes the difference?

It could.

Sometimes I feel just as you do . . .like how is it possible that my single vote can be the decision maker? But, if we want to have an impact, we cannot be apathetic. Congrats on getting over there to vote!

Trey, Good for you in making the extra effort.  You never know it might be that one vote that makes the difference. I could not find my voter registration either but the drivers license worked fine.

Thanks

Trey - You make an excellent point.  When the turnout is low (or even high, as in the 2000 Presidential election), one vote really can make a difference.

Trey,

Only 58?

That means your vote would be almost 2% of the total. Wow Trey I had no idea you were so important!  :>)

At one election 11 years ago the evil Harry Reed one by less that 200 votes after several recounts. Voting is so important that in Chicago even the dead come out on election day and vote several times.

Well done.

Hi, Trey.  I'm glad you did...remember the voters in Iraq walked for many miles just so they can put the purple ink on their finger.  :)

Hey Trey,

YOU have my utmost respect! To me, this speaks volumes about the person you are, wouldn't things be different if everyone felt that way?

Trey,  A Mayor race in our little town of West York, PA was won by 10 votes!!  I would bet there are atleast 11 people who were and will continue to complain about things but did not go vote!!

trey - the beauty of america is that we determine our own worth, only you can decide if your vote can/will make a difference. it looks like you decided that it does make a difference. good choice.

Trey,

I remember as a small going into the voting booth with my Mother.

The kind with the curtains and levers (before the hanging chads).

I always remember that when I vote.

Yolanda, Yes and they feared for their lives too, God Bless them!

Lynda, Thank you for your gracious words. I do my best to get our agents in the office to vote. For the most part I believe our Realtors care enough to.

Thanks John H and John C for the remarks!

One vote certainly could make the difference. Lets look at the senate, if there was even one more Republican a lot of the things getting passed couldn't.

I think there are many that feel the same way.  If everyone of these people decided not to voted that could make a large difference.  Now its many people with only one vote.  So, I would rather go out of my way to vote and let other know that I want to vote regardless.

Hi Trey... the power of one vote comes entirely into perspective when it is compared against all the other one votes that make up the electorate, locally, statewide and nationally.  If something or someone you support loses by one or two votes, that power becomes all the more clear.  I admire the effort you made to have your voice heard yesterday.
