Youth is wasted on the young...

I can remember laying on the cool evening grass, looking at the full moon through the leaves of the large pecan tree in the side yard of my south GA home - contemplating.  This was my favorite spot at the end of a long day of chores on the farm. My sanctuary of solitude - my safe place to let the cares of the day go and thoughts of tomorrow begin.

In the eyes of a child, time seems to just dawdle. Gosh, can't wait till tomorrow. Can't wait to get out of grade school. Can't wait to get out of high school. Can't wait to get out of college. Can't wait...

It has been said by folks much wiser than me, youth is wasted on the young. Today, as I cross the threshold and look forward towards another decade on this spinning orb, I realize truer words were never spoken. Like Superman, I was indestructible. At 16, I was smarter than Einstein. At 21, I forgot all I knew. In this journey, I broke a lot of hearts. I had my heart broken.

It has been said, that when, you die, your whole life flashes before your eyes. I really don't know about that - not ready to experience that one. Way too much music left in me to do the Vaudeville Shuffle.

Half my life is now over. In my mind, I often go back to those cool summer evenings under the pecan tree and contemplate. Safe in my sanctuary of solitude, I let the cares of the day go and contemplate on the importance of today, tomorrow, family and friends.

With all the excitement of my younger days, I can't wait. Can't wait to see what present this new day will bring. Presents of presence. Can't wait to see what I will be unwrapping today ☺☺☺

. .and also in ADULTS

That was my point during Halloween. . many people criticize it and wished that it never existed . . "They don't see the point of Halloween"

My point being is that we should embrace anytime when we are allowed to become children again. .

I enjoyed Halloween, dresseed as Zorro and run around like another child with my own kids. .

I jump at the chance to be a kid again. . . anytime!

Just being with the young can be energizing-I went trick or treating with my niece & nephew and it was fun.

Michael, Thanks for that wandering through peaceful and youthful times post.

When you spoke of your sanctuary instantly an image of the swing in my back yard as a kid came to mind. I grew up in a family of six kids and a family grocery store with "chores" to do at home and the store. When I got my time that swing was where I would go to contemplate. That swing hung on ropes 20 feet long in a huge sycamore tree. It takes me back.

Michael, It sounds to me like a birthday post...Happy Birthday to you! It also sounds like if you tweak this post a bit, you can get a country song out of it! Enjoy your day...and your next 50 years (isn't that a song?)

I had this discussion with one of my agents yesterday and he was saying he had entered his 6th decade and how when he was younger the thought of living through a millenium and into the 21st century and the changes we have seen and so on.  Youth is wasted on the young, but remain young at heart and nothing need be wasted!!  Enjoy your day and Happy Birthday!!

GOOD MORNING MICHAEL!  My dad once said that the children rushing to get through life have parents that rushed them through their childhood.  I remember the days of dodge ball in our front yard late into the summer night.  It sounds as though you will enjoy your last half as much as the first! -- Gabrielle

It really is wasted on the youth. They have so much energy when they want it. Sometimes I just want HALF of their energy.
