WhooHoo! 1st Place Macro! - Arlington Camera Photo Contest

A couple months or so ago, a friend told me about a photo contest sponsored by Arlington Camera in Texas. She suggested I enter a photo and see what happens....So I did.

This was my entry:

Macro photograph of a bee

I took this photograph using a Nikon 50mm prime lens with a Hoya Digital Pro 3X Closeup lens attached. It was a late spring day up on Rampart Range, outside of Woodland Park, Colorado. I hung around this guy for about 20 minutes, 'shooting' him I don't know how many times. Luckily I was by myself, no one else would have had the patience for it!

Arlington's November Newsletter just came out, announcing the winners!

What's that dance when you have your arms out going in a circle called? Whatever it is, I'm doing it! :)

Debi...great job.... but really I think the only way you could ever take 2nd place in a photo contest would be if you entered 2 photos....but then you would have 1st and 2nd place.......peace zane

Hi there Fred - The Hoya close up lens I use is attached to the end of the lens on your camera. It comes in different sizes, and different degrees of 'closeness',3X 6X, etc, you buy the one to fit the lens you intend to use. It shouldn't matter which camera you use. There are alot of different close up lenses on the market - take care which you choose, as with any lens you attach, quality of the glass matters. What I'm using is by no means top of the line, but it's no where near the bottom either! I use the 50mm prime for my macros, because of the quality and sharpness of the resulting photographs. There are so many other ways, a dedicated macro lens for example. Depends on how deep your pockets are! LOL

Hi William - Thank you very much! I appreciate the kind words! I have a real affinity for macro and close ups, as you can tell by many of my shots. If you want to see the whole animal, in many cases, you won't see it in my shots! LOL

William Part 2: You did? Where? LOL

Wanda and Sharon - Thanks so much ladies! I was really pleased :)

Myrl - That's why I love macro - we get to see the detail we generally miss along the way...

Hi Andrea! I won a gift card to use on their online store - now let's see...hmmm. How about this? Or maybe this? LOL

Karen - Thanks so very much! I'm so glad you like it! This was a fun shoot :)

Great shot Debi. I like to use my macro when I have time. I do have a 101mm f2.8 that I use when I shoot the often "unnoticed" world. I will start posting more to ARPB. BTW do y'all accept videos? Send me an EM...

Hello Gene - You only need the patience if you have a moving target - LOL Flowers are good macro subjects. If the wind isn't blowing, they typically stay put :)
