Here's a quick tip for when you go into an REO and you notice you have fleas.  First, try to alway wear white socks when going inside.  They can't resist and will hop on your socks, making it easier for you to notice they are there.  Secondly, try to turn your car on without getting inside if that is possible.  Once the car is running, step behind your muffler.  The exhaust fumes will make the fleas jump off you within a few seconds.

Fleas used to be my major worry when going into a house because if you get them in your car or house, it is a royal pain.  You have to spray, wait two weeks, then spray again to get the eggs.

Yeah, unfortunately there are many homes out there in REO world. They end up giving fleas to US!  :)

Interesting post, never thought about it, but yes don't want to give any free rides home to my place. Up north we are lucky when we get an REO listings during the winter with the home not being heated maybe that kills them off? Not Sure.

Ok. let me tell you about one experience I had..............same thing.  I and my associate went into a home to view for listing, the home was vacant, and had been for about a month or so.........just long enough.  She and I were wandering about the house when I noticed my foot itched.  I looked down at my foot and lost it!  ........I was wearing hose at the time and a skirt, my friend in slacks.  My feet and legs were covered in fleas!!!!!!!!  UGH! She had them crawling up her legs too!! It was AWFUL!! The best part, or at least its funny NOW.....was when we ran outside and stripped!!!  LOL  I tore my hose off and skirt and she , her slacks.  If someone were to have seen us they would have died laughing (not sure someone didnt see us actually!)  and we would not have cared!  We beat our clothes until we beat and shake no more, put them in a bag and threw them in the trunk.  I lived closest, so we drove to my house and changed clothes, she had to borrow my clothes.  We threw the clothes in my washer and back to work we went!  Now that I look back it was a riot but GROSS!

Tish, this is the funniest story.  You should submit it for a blog.  Not that I am laughing at you but it did make me laugh.  What we won't do for a buck or two!!

I hate to laugh because usually I get the same or worst just for laughing,  But right now I am laughing.

Guess I needed to crack a smile and laugh today.  Thanks!

I came back to the post because it so hot and there is nothing worst than a flea except to be bothered with them in the heat.  Be careful.

I would have loved to have seen a picture of a flea on this post! hopping around. smile

Never thought about fleas, but thanks for the post, it gave me the creeps.  I'm standing by my muffler after every showing.  I have twin exhaust, one for me and one for my clients.

Crabs? You live by a beach??? lol

More tips on fleas, and the avoidance of them... spray your shoes, socks and pants with a DEET-containing bug repellent before going inside.

put a flea collar for cats or small dogs around each ankle before going inside.

ALWAYS bring a change of clothes and a plastic bag with you when dealing with REO or nasty properties- odds are either the fleas or the smell your clothes absorb will make you use them!

Keep your sense of humor, you'll needit to deal with the fleas, crabs, and other hazards of doing REO!

I wrote a blog about fleas also.  My tip was to insert a sheet of white paper in the door before you enter the house.  If fleas jump on it you can easily see them and take precautions.

Thank you for the tips!!  I wouldn't have thought about this - and with all the pets I have - the last thing I need is FLEAS!!

LOL - as if we don't have enough to worry about in our profession - now it's Fleas!!

Thanks  :)
