Amy - Now this is the way to go to the front of the search engines.. Nice localism post! Congrats!
Amy nothing like a good hardware or tool store for us guys. We love to wander those aisles.
Fortunately Alexandria has seen the "re-birth" of several hardware stores similar to this - such a nice touchstone in an otherwise impersonal retail environment.
Amy, this is a wonderful post about Williams Hardware. You live in a wonderful area! I also support the little guy whenever I can.
Amy, I love those hardware stores, I used to go to one in Philly (we're losing 7-1) and I always wondered how they always had what you needed, what appeared to be a closet was a stairwell to the basement and literally every square inch of every wall was covered in stuff!!!
And the owner could talk about any subject you cared to bring up.
Hi Amy -- I always prefer to go to a local hardware store over the big box stores. They are much more knowledgable, helpful, friendly and you can more easily find your way around, get in and out, and overall, it's a much better experience -- at least for me.
Amy A Good hardware store is so important to a community. Great job on your presentation.
Amy, More than likely the original owners of Williams Hardware were relatives of my husband. He has lots of relatives named Williams who owned property and businesses from New Bern all the way down to Atlantic Beach.
Williams Hardware sounds great. I love these well established small town establishments that are so much more interesting and fun to go to than the "big guns" when you are in need of sound advise. You almost always find friendly folks who care and want to help, great info and historical facts.
Nice post and I hope Williams and other small town businesses will continue to survive and thrive despite the current economy.

Great local story on what looks like a great local store. Thanks for the post.
Thanks everyone for stopping by. Williams is a great local place with a lot to offer. I have been in their store hundreds of times and they are always so helpful and friendly (they don't even get grumpy when my four year old is running uncontrollably through the isles...I do, but they don't).
Gotta love, local NC businesses. As i always say. NC is a great place to visit, but a better palce to live :-)
Who doesn't love an ol' fashioned hardware store! :-) I'm reminded of that one in Runaway Bride! lol
Wow, I forgot about that place, used to go there all the time with my dad when I lived in Morehead.
Do they still have the parrot in the store? [There used to be a big bird that stayed perched up near the front].
Raine, No Parrot up front anymore, but the place is still great...some things never change (thank goodness).
Liz, Now I have Runaway Bride on the brain. Have a great day!
Great hook and local angle to use for blogging. Thanks for a good example.
This is the hardware store of the 50's where the customer is No#1. If you need something the salestaff are professional and know where to find it and wont be overbearing during your shopping experience. They are professional, knowledgeable and make you truly feel at home. If your in the area for a true shopping experience that you will remember for years go to this hardware store and you will be sold! The customer is spoiled by the great service! Thank you for you service!!!
Hi Amy...that's my brother W.R. Beasley that owns Williams Hardware. You are so right..that is a GREAT store. We are very proud of him. Thanks for the feature. He doesn't know I have seen this. A friend sent it to me.
Sylvia Beasley, Waynesville, NC
Chuck - You are absolutely correct! Williams Hardware and the folks that own & run it are awesome!
Sylvia - Well, I'm so glad you saw the post! We have never had a complaint about Williams, and always get great service! We recommend them to everyone we know, and are confident that they will get the same great service we always receive from your brother and Williams Hardware! Thank you so much for stopping by!
